Planned in a pedestrian area in Vienna, Austria; the benches and permission from municipality, table from a private sponsor (a lower five-digit amount (in €, I assume)), weatherproof 42" touchscreens, software being developed by volunteers, use will be free.

New age version of the "two guys sitting on a bench in a park and playing board games" thing.

Very nice idea

In Spain the glass would be broken within a week... I guess in Vienna people behave properly,so it'll be an extremely fashionable four-in-a-row

Bullet-proof! I could understand that in the US, but it necessary in Austria?

Would rain would be channeled down the gap between the two umbrellas to fall on the middle of the board?

I am that engineer.
Since this is only a computer visualisation to show the look and the concept, modelling such a detail didn't seem necessery within the tight time frame for it. The real table will have the umbrellas connected by a drip rail.

I guess we don't need to be in such a hurry to move to Vienna.

whoa, cool to have you here, and welcome! Do you play Go yourself?

Good, and I thought so, seems natural to me to solve it that way.

And I hope to see many more of these, hopefully also in Germany. Dang, if I were rich I’d talk to the mayor of the village I live in and sponsor such a place in the little park right across my place :-D

Herzliche Grüße nach Österreich,

Tom

You don't need to be rich. You just need to be persuasive and know the right people.

Thanks for spreading the word(s) Thomas. I wonder if other cities (or personal interests) could purchase a copy now that the developmental work has been completed? (a Go - worldwide - community effort... the more purchased/made the lower the cost?)

Isn't it a tad expensive just to save the effort to fetch some boards from the Go centre next door?

Time flies … meanwhile the Electronic Go Table with two boards has been inaugurated in a pedestrian zone in Vienna, Austria, just outside of the Go Club Go7 (http://goverband.at/wp/?page_id=758).

Congratulations Go7, Vienna, and my deep respect to Daniel, this is a great project, and I hope we will soon see places like this all over the planet!
