Still Alive...

... but not playing Go.

My masters degree (plus work, kids) has gotten in the way of playing Go. I can't say I'm reformed... only on an extended break. I only have one semester of thesis remaining. Who'd have thought a part-time degree would take this much work? My hardest class, Underwater Acoustics, had take home exams that took, on average, 40 hours to complete! I probably won't ever match the level of interest I had around the beginning of GD, but I hope to return to the servers after my defense this fall.

Two kids also keep me busy: a 5 year old boy and a 10 month old girl.

It probably doesn't need to be said, but I found this site when trying to check out GD. Since it's gone, I figure I should check in here and let any interested parties know that I was still alive.

If you are not playing go, you're not alive. Hibernating maybe... :)

Good to hear from you again.

I know how busy kids can keep you. You may be able to integrate some Go by teaching/playing your kids.

Welcome back.

It's been at least a decade since we last played.
Still have that massive go book library of yours?

I'm up for a rematch sometime if you have time. Feel free to pass me a line.

I'm even more still alive now...
I'm playing go (after a long hiatus), mostly involved at the club level (1-2 games a month).
I finished that masters of science in 2011...
Also had a 3rd kid...
and lots of life changes. ;D

I guess I don't really want life to slow down.

Sure, Koosh, I'd be happy to play you :D

5 years since the last post is a long time...
12 years since starting go is a long time...
35 years ...... :-?

What I understand from this, is that if you have three kids you can only find the time to post once every five years or so.

It's about 2 years per kid, but my 9 year old takes a lot less out of me than the other two ;)

Out of curiosity, have your children shown interest in go? My 8 year old son shows some interest but hesitates to dive into it. My 5 year old daughter shows greater enthusiasm but is still at the age where she finds it difficult to stick to the rules and moves stones for fun etc which makes play between them a non-starter.

My 9yo son gets bored if it's not a video game. We're focusing on books for now, but the stones got put away for a long time because of the younger ones. All of them had trouble with order of moves and they all still do. I should check with my son to see if he wants to be serious about playing... I just gave him IGOWIN, so we'll see how that goes!

My son at one point played against the iPad occasionally and did some life and death problems (his choice) after school. But it didn't last that long as a phase, Minecraft is hard for go to compete with! :P

Similarly though, yeah, we're pushing books first.

Minecraft...? What's that?

Just kidding. OMG, I wish they'd stop. I know too much about creepers as it is.
I did make this cake for my son's birthday last year, though (just the topper)

Thank goodness my son hasn't heard about those. I don't think I could handle it!
