i would have aga rules, play one board as white, one board as black, and mimic his moves.
cheating? maybe, but would be a great game i'm sure.

If you play against a being who already knows the solution to Go,
it has a few options:
  • If Go is a tie and komi is a natural number, it can force a tie;
  • If it can force a no result, it's an option;
  • If it already knows what you're up to, it can call you out and refuse to play you. Or do other things to you;
  • It can also just show you all the branches to the solution --
    which is basically what you're requesting to see --
    which may take longer than the age of the universe...?
  • AGA rules? :shock: WTH.

Pretty sure God would refuse to play with AGA rules.

You can try say him that you don't believe in him. He will lose a power and you can win if he doesn't destroy you.

What's the point of playing if none are your own moves? That sounds like non-participation.

It's like playing a game of mirror go to the bitter end. You'd be watching your deity play an elaborate version of solitaire.

Don't forget,
"...you can do what you want Abe but the next time you see me comin' you better run..."
God speaking to Abraham in Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited.

I'd play tengen on the opposite board as black.

Because you didn't specify time settings it would probably play in a way that stalls out your time until you die causing you to lose by default.

Under blitz time settings I think the same strategy using an n amount of ko to avoid the super ko rule, again abusing byo yomi until you die of age.

Also the use of passes could double the length of the game.

Though if there was a strategy to beat a deity, yours is certainly close.

Aren't we doing that already - without go?

i have my own technique:
1) (hardest) find god and make Him (Her ?) talk to me.
2) ask for a game of go, let God have white out of respect of course
3) appeal to His (Her ?) infinite mercy to ask first for a game on a smaller board because i am a puny mortal sinner
4)

What if Go is undecidable, i.e. neither White nor Black can win? It is possible to my understand that a Go game could be infinitely long....

BTW: If God is omnipotent then he could win by the very definition of omnipotence. If not, then he's not God.

Yes, because the almighty power of God is dependent on the belief of some silly little human. Sounds right! I would add a stipulation that God has to write down all of his moves ahead of time before seeing mine and then I would choose my moves based on his (and yet I still wouldnt have a living stone on the board by the end).
