Go Bowls

There is a new style of go bowl being used in the pro pair-go tournaments in Japan. They are narrow and tall. Beyond that they seem to be of normal capacity, but is this possibly so that both partners can have a bowl each? Has anyone been to one of the tournaments and seen this?

How curious! I haven't seen them -- do you have an example image?

I have seen bowls used for pair go which have the bottom part like a normal bowl and the top enlarged with sloping straight sides, a frustum of a cone, which, I suppose, would hold half of the stones.

HKA has a set and used to bring them to the US Go Congress years ago.

Needless to say, it will be a miracle if I actually manage to upload a photo here. If I was successful, then you see a pic of my daughter and I (she is on the left) playing in the Pair Go tournament at the NY Go Congress. I have the bottom of the bowl, she has the next level, and you can see the ultimate lid with some prisoners to her right. The more important thing to note in this photo (credit Sarah Small) is that we actually see a 16 year old girl who is momentarily not annoyed by her father.

Your left or our left?

Have you ever seen that when explaining left or right on a picture it's not the from the viewer's viewpoint?
(besides the fact that I can only see one female on the picture)

I believe DrStraw was making a witticism at HKA's expense, who decided to qualify the location of his daughter out of a collection of two quite different-looking people.

Apart from the fact that victory decides who's right and who's left, is this a combined magic-go tournament? Manybutton-go? What are these cards in front of the board?
Nice bowls, though!

two quite different-looking people.
There are
at least seven people shown in the photo; she is on the left of the photo, and on the left of the person in the dark grey suit (?).
I also have the same question about the possibly-Magic cards.

Oh, and somebody is wearing a cap with the Chinese characters for 'father/dad'.

Those bowls look interesting. I've never seen them before.
They resemble a dish for cat food, but I still like the design

Yes.
I believe (tongue in cheek) that it's a reference to Bob Dole who, during his Presidential campaign many years ago, held up a photo and said "Here's a picture of me, my wife, and my dog. My wife's on the right." A funny man, that Dole.
