The human brain is made up of 100,000,000,000 brain cells

Linked by synapses, each brain cell can connect to tens of thousands of other brain cells.

I think it's pretty fascinating.

So, it would take around 27,397 years for the entire brain to deteriorate. Works for me

Sounds like we have enough to last us 10 million days, or about 30,000 years. We probably don't need to worry.

So how does the brain compare to our most powerful computers? Why are our brains still superior if a computer is clearly faster in calculating?

How many computers function well over an 80-year lifespan without the possibility of replacement parts? Also, is calculating all that people do?

The fastest super computers are probably a bit more powerful, the fastest consumer computers are probably a bit weaker. Hard to say, because we don't understand what's going on in the brain particularly well, but they're likely in the same general neighborhood. Computers calculate faster, but they're only doing a handful of calculations at a time. The human brain is much, much slower, but all the neurons can be doing there own thing: we don't process one neuron, then the next, then the next: they all go more or less at once, and there's a lot of them.

Possibly we're vastly underestimating the computational power of the human brain: it may be that the structure allows vastly more computation than an orderly chip could provide: how much extra "computation" can be achieved by the irregular shapes of the neurons, by the chemicals flowing about in the brain, etc., etc.

Possibly we've got fast enough computers but just don't know how to write the software for intelligence yet.

Computers can beat me at GO. But they cannot drive across town, play GO with a friend, have a discussion, meet someone new, discuss the game, and realize how weak you are. Nor can it decide to play GO, like GO, hate it and play it anyway. Oh and then head home, do paperwork and repair the sink....
