Accessing KGS

Hi all,
I haven't been on KGS for some time and was trying to connect now, but failed. Accessing (from Germany) the website at
http://www.gokgs.com leads to timeout.
The servercheck at
http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/gokgs.com tells me that the KGS website is up.
It is not a browser issue (I tried Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Edge) and not an OS issue (I tried Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15).
ping also timed out. the KGS server was resolved to 69.167.162.199
Any ideas what's going wrong?
Thanks for help

I asked an admin, who said that it is a known issue. Apparently the only thing to do atm is to use the client.

Thanks, daal. Trying to connect with the client also timed out

That's the jnlp file though... I would probably need the cgoban.jar fille locally on my computer and start it from there. But the download does not work

Edit: got the jar file from alternative website (an old version obviously).
Settings say that one should connect to goserver.gokgs.com
The application returns an error message that the server is refusing connections.
The servercheck at
http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/goserver.gokgs.com says that theh site is down (though for
www.gokgs.com it says it is up)

Karaklis,
I’m just watching Dinershtein playing a game against Trubitsin (Russian Championship final round 3) with CGoban 3.5.20 (cgoban.jar) … and I’ve sent you a PM.
Herzlichen Gruß, Tom

BTW, it could also be that you’re a victim of
this technical problem (German article, local problem in Northrhine-Westphalia and perhaps the whole West of Germany)

I can't read that

but it could be likely. And perhaps similar to what I just suggested to EdLee in another thread, for his connection to IGS.
It sounds like a semi-localized DNS or router problem, perhaps at your ISP level. Perhaps a call to their support line could help diagnose and debug the problem?

yeah, that check is probably not going to help much with this one, as goserver.gokgs.com not so much a website, as it is a service endpoint.
I can ping the endpoint just fine, even though downforeveryoneorjustme reports it down for me too.
