None of :b7:, :b23:, :b29: seem quite right to me.

I'd say Black was quite a bit ahead when he ran out of time.

White 8 is an unusual choice. O3/N3 versus the usual P3/O3 is too nice for Black. It seems to me that 17 should be at R7, threatening S4. Black disrupts the right side and White achieves very little.

What are some alternatives? Not sure about :b29: but I really like :b7: and :b23:.

Maybe that's why I'm still SDK :)

:b7: at R7, :b23: at C17. Black gets a double-wing formation but not much else from the opening. It is possible instead to play for overall balance and to prevent the white 4-4 point having a broad development.
