Hi everyone, as some of you seems quite good at this, let me share some photos of my bowls. I purchased them like 13 years ago, I think from a belgium site?, I think the web was in French and English. Maybe is cherrywood? I can't remember how much I paid for them... maybe aroun 70€ back in that days? And another think I'd like to know is the biggest stone I could fit in. I have this bowls, but my board and stones are from a toy-shop, so they're utterly rubish. Just thinking about keeping the bowls and just getting a shinkaya goban and some stones (can't afford s&s atm I'm afraid). I suppose that being impossible to get ING the only other option is glass stones.

You can find an overview and pictures of woods used for Japanese go bowls here:

Mmm, ¿karin maybe? This are the only bowls I have so it's difficult to me to identify the wood, but ty for the resource! ¿Any idea about how big stones could fit in?

Mmm, could be karin or perhaps keyaki. Difficult to tell from a picture and from a distance, and I'm not a wood worker.
In the picture, the bowls look a bit reddish. Are you sure they have not been treated, painted or lacquered or something?
Also, given the shape of the lids, they may have been made in an other country than Japan? Where did you get them from?

Storage capacity is also difficult to tell from a picture. My rough guess is up to size 34 stones might fit? If you want, I can measure the contents of some of my bowls (water in plastic bag) of which I know what size and quantity of stones fit in it, so that you can compare it with yours.

Time to get some stones for you.
