Do you get a feeling that head-bumps himself against W's strong shape ?

I think I understand what you mean, but what would be a better alternative to my move?

Locally, L13 is a candidate.

A move like is not very big. It enlarges b's territory by maybe 2 points. At the same time it invites w to secure a much bigger territory below.

Therefore at I would probably have played the shoulder hit at H4. It is a nice reduction, there are black stones located in left & top directions and - if white answers by securing the bottom - it could potentially develop a large moyo in the center area.

If there is a drawback with at H4 please someone let me know.

Thanks for the comments, Daal. I actually played as black in that game, though that doesn't make any of your points less helpful. And you're right about the moves at O9 and J12, I let some rather frustrating experiences with getting cut replace a simple reading of the situation.
