Alternatives to Life & Death and Shape up

So I'm looking for books covering the same material as the books above, but in a different fashion. I think both books have some nice ideas, but don't follow through.
Life and Death: I bought it thinking it would be like a joseki dictionary, but instead for common corner/side shapes. This was only half true. Often the book explains a shape on the side and then moves it into the corner as problems. I would like essentially the same thing but without the problems. Just a compendium of the most common L&D shapes, with a few words of explanation how to attack/defend them.
Shape up: Here I would like an expanded section on the compound shapes. Unfortunately what the book offers is pretty barebones, especially in terms of cutting sequences. I would like something more comprehensive, if possible including how surrounding stones affect the "connectedness" of the formation.
If anyone knows of books like that I would be grateful for a recommendation.
Thanks in advance
