Life In 19x19

Infact it's been that long sice I learnned the game. I picked it up one afternoon, when a co-worker on a summer job showed me how to play.

Since then, a lack of other players, and a lack of any Go representation in the rural area where I live has lead to me letting drop.

Now I have 7 and 10 year old daughters who are both interested to learn the game.

Any recomendations on where and what to get as equipment, how to teach and learn, good reading for a new player, etc would be most welcome.

Welcome! Good luck, I hope you and your daughters enjoy the game! As far as cheap learning sets go, the cheapest you can get is printing a (starting with 9*9) board off the internet and using glass aquarium beads. Book-wise, I recommend learning with Janice Kim's Learn to Play Go series. Alternatively, the Second Book of Go and Jonathan Hop (Yithril, on this forum)'s So You Want To Play Go Volume One are both good options. I would say, start with volume one of Janice Kim's, and then choose any of the three after that.

There are now many places to buy go equipment, mostly on line. The following are all popular, well recommended sources where you can buy inexpensive sets through "work of art" sets depending on your budget:

There are also lots more books for beginners than there were 25 years ago. Some of those have already been recommended by others. I like Peter Shotwell's Go: More than a Game. Also, you can learn a lot from the beginners' section of http://senseis.xmp.net (Senseis Library). You can also take lessons online from any number of teachers, even some pros!

Wow! You've gone 25 years without losing a game. That's better than most of us.
