I recently purchased a 1-1/2" shin-kaya floor board from YMI, but after getting it I realized that a table board would've been a much better choice. Anyone know what's involved with removing the legs from a board? The board itself is only like $50-60 so I'm not too worried about it getting damaged.

Also, I plan on getting S&S stones and a nicer goban in the future (in a year, maybe?) anyone have any good recommendations? Price limit is probably $1,200 for goban, stones, and bowls.

Don't know about removing the legs - the legs on my floor board come out relatively easily (but it's probably at least 30 years old, maybe more than 50, and they may have loosened over time.)

But for good quality stuff, I heartily endorse http://www.kurokigoishi.co.jp/english/ - that's where I got my stones and bowls, as well as my tournament clock (the Meijinsen)

I'd try the following:

1. try to pull legs straight out
2. try to unscrew the legs
3. saw them off

And maybe if you do end up sawing them off, leave a little (1/2"?) stub on each and put felt on the bottom and you can still get a little echo effect when you place stones.

Purely an aesthetic choice, but an option to remember.

With traditional boards with legs in Japan the legs are friction fit, no nails, screws or glue. I have no idea about your board.

After a few good whacks with a mallet the legs came right out, no nails or screws involved.
