No clue - but I wonder whether we are seeing a visit by Kitani's daughter and at least one of the Honda sisters? Where is John Fairbairn when we need him...

Well, it just happens that I have the July 1961 Kido in front of me, where they report on the visit to the USA by Honda Sachiko, 3-dan, Honda Teruko, 3-dan, and Kitani Reiko, 2-dan. Three handicap games are given, R Fox taking 3 stones, H Taylor taking 3 stones, and Edward Lasker taking 4 stones. White won each game by resignation. Unfortunately, I do not have the necessary skills to say whether any of these games were played in San Francisco.

I knew they had visted, and the opponents you mention are almost certainly East Coast ones, probably New York.

I believe I recognized the two Honda sisters and Kitani Reiko in the film. Don't know who their opponents were, though.

The sign on the club door says 'Nihon Kiin San Francisco Branch'...

More than a dozen years later, around 1975 I believe, Kitani Reiko visited San Francisco again, with a group led by Ishida Yoshio. I had the honor to play Ishida at 2-stone handicap and lost. After the game Reiko gave a detailed review of the game, which was the first time I had a professional review my game. The depth and clarity of her analysis left an indelible impression on me, which I remember even to this day.

To follow up a little, one of the Kido games was played in San Francisco and, as a minor salute to their World Series win, I post it here. The record only gives the inital H, so it would be nice if anyone could provide any further information.

Going out on a limb here, but the Caucasian fellow with glasses and beard, who is sitting at the table, but not actually playing a game in this video - could this be Richard Bozulich?

Well spotted! I believe that it is Richard, back in the days when his hair was black; I knew Richard when I lived in Tokyo from 1969 to 1973. Back then, I had hair.
