12k lost to 12k

I was white and I lost by 33,5 points, but I don't know where I could have played better.
At move 30 I thought I was behind so I invaded but I also thought R9 looks good and couldn't really decide.
It would be good if someone can give me some comments and hints.

at 30 you were not behind.
and invasion was good timely.

you made a fatal mistake at 38.
i will let you figure it out on your own.

To tell the truth I can't figure out why 38 was bad?
Except for:
Maybe I can tenuki here? But I don't think that is good.
Another way would be L2 here which now looks not too bad.

But I'm not really sure.

L2 and J2 exchange before M4

also take a look at move 40

why do you leave cutting point while your group is so weak??
knight move is cool but not here.

Overall, I think you lost the game with moves 42-62. Here are some comments (I'm a little tired, so take them with a grain of salt).

You're right, that was a bad move.
It just shows how much I still need to learn :study:

@judicata: Thank you for your comments, it really helps me!
I learned a lot from these comments, but I guess it will take some work to apply the new ideas into my game.

At move 16 I would have played in the middle of the biggest space on the board: at the bottom, at K3.
You have two groups that you can extend from, but neither is so strong that it demands an extension. Whereas he has two hoshi stones, both of which want to extend to the middle.

Let's look at the bottom half of the board at move 16:

[go]$$c Black wants to extend to the shaded areas:

By playing :w16:, you interfere with the plans of one stone ( it now cannot extend northward ):
