Three is correct but I see only one way to do it and the resulting shape is always at the same position. Maybe I am mistaken. Which stones do you mean?

None; once placed, a stone may not be moved (except when captured). That is the weight of a stone.
That aside, this puzzle was in one of the Lufia RPGs on SNES. Haven't forgotten it since then.

I guess it depends on what you consider to be a different way. To me, moving the bottom stone to the top right is a different action than moving the same stone to the top left.
