There are plenty of threads on other games, so I wonder:
Anyone ever played Battle for Wesnoth?
It is a very nice high-fantasy war game. I discovered it recently and instantly liked it.

Yeah, I played through one of the campaigns forever ago. I liked the game a lot, though it got a bit frustrating (it's a bit dice-rolly, if you want to keep specific people alive). If I had it on my tablet, I think I'd play it more.

When I started my "free as in freedom" kick, that was one of the first programs I found. But iirc it gets repetitive really quickly.

Played it years ago on Windows, then later on Linux, and currently I occasionally play it on the iPad.

I never got totally addicted to it, but it's been a steady game companion. There aren't all that many games like it, with RTS having taken over, so I'm quite fond of it.

Well, I just finished one of the longer campaigns. (I had not, when I started the thread.) I really like it. The chance factor / risk management and the simple, intuitive rules make it just near perfect for its genre in my opinion. I am not so fond of games that are basically just a big puzzle and where you can effectively eliminate chance as soon as you know the variables. In Wesnoth it is always possible that something goes wrong, so you need a contingency plan. On the other hand games where action per minute are the major factor are not made for me either. The concept of having turns always appealed to me.
And it was really surprising to find that you can succeed with very different strategies although the game isn't easy at all.

Well, I probably killed the thread by my fondness of the Random Number Generator.
There is a feature however that might be of interest to go players. If a player escapes a multiplayer match, you have the option to hand him over to an AI. If KGS could implement this with some scalable Monte Carlo bot, wouldn't that be great?

I would hate that. In Go, I want to play people, not computers. And besides, why should someone potentially beat me after they escape and don't come back?

Yes, very much so.
