Hello from Iowa

I've been lurking for a while. Been playing for just about six months now; I'm unfortunately an online-only player, because there are three people I know who play Go, and none play it seriously. I've just managed to get to 9k KGS, so I'm proud of my new SDK status (yes, you can all laugh :) )

I've mostly been playing, with occasional reading and problem solving thrown in. Just got volumes 2&3 of graded go problems for beginners as a gift, and got to immediately use some of the shapes I ran into in a game, so I probably need to do more tsumego.

Welcome! Depending on where in Iowa you are, there may be more go players than you think. A club in Ames just recently organized a tournament, and the AGA also lists a club in the Quad Cities area. I was thinking there was a group in Iowa City, but I could be getting them confused with the Ames club.

Congrats on hitting 9k, best of luck with your improvement in go!

I'm in Cedar Rapids... which apparently had a Go club at one time, but it doesn't seem to exist any more. That leaves me 1.5-2 hours from the other Go clubs in the state.

Not very practical for any sort of ongoing play (most of my time to play Go is in evenings after wife/kids are asleep anyway), but I didn't realize they were doing tournaments. Maybe I can keep an eye on the Ames site and see if they run another, just to get some games in on a real board.

Thanks!

Hey, I'm in cedar rapids as well, just started playing though, so I couldn't offer much of a challenge at the moment, but I'd definitely like to learn... maybe even get a Go club going in Cedar Rapids again.
