Yeah, the subject is to be taken literally ^^ I feel lost in all recent games. I don't know where to play, when to play big moves, how to defend or attack correctly... generally it seems I don't know anything anymore : /
Maybe someone has some pointers for these two games, where I went wrong and what possibilities I had?
Some crude and stupid moves I found myself, but I still feel I don't see the greater picture right now.
In desperate need of some direction

Re: In desperate need of some direction
I only looked through the first game, but my impression of the fuseki was that you played bland, maybe even slack moves which your weaker opponent found very easy to answer. I'd recommend more pincering and more wedging to force him to make crucial decisions earlier. Then your superior skills can be brought to bear earlier. ( In particular, move 5 at K3 )
In game 2, move 26 commits you to guarding two weak groups, which is strategically dubious. How about you leave the smaller one for the aji later, and strengthen the bigger one? R17 is sente.

Re: In desperate need of some direction
nyuubi & Joaz Banbeck
Thank you very much! A lot of good ideas which I completely missed :X
W26 at 3*3, for instance. I felt here that Black's right side would be too big if he swallows my stone there. But on the other side, his corner is still open to an invasion so I guess it's okay for now when I get an attack on his corner.
At W40 I actually invited Black to cut me intentionally. Maybe I replayed too much Dosaku games and didn't understand anything but I thought sacrificing these stones and getting the top would be quite nice. I also had big endgame due to my stones there, so I thought the trade would not be bad.
On top of that I think I could connect my right side groups with Q12. (But I later blundered enormously with my two-step-Hane [W46 and so on] and killed this connection.)
At W72: Less forcing moves from the outside but Black gets a bigger corner in Sente. Or is the sequence inferior? ^^
At B93: I think this is good enough for White - endgame-wise.
I need to go now. I will go over the second game later. But thanks for the fast responses!

Main focus: Avoid single purpose plays.

Re: In desperate need of some direction
Thanks again nyuubi and Bill Spight!
I think in handicap games I suffer (even more compared to an even game) under my extreme preferance for territory ^^ Those one-purpose-moves. And that I'm not even thinking about going for an attack like Bill Spight proposes. Kind of curious as to why this is as it is...
Well, next time I will just play differently =)

Re: In desperate need of some direction
You're welcome:)
In handicap games, you need to catch up to your opponents lead. The easiest and most common way to do so is to try to create an attack as Bill says. You should aim to fight and gain territory 'for free' while attacking. Territory does not only exist in the corners, the center has plenty room for territory:p
If you use proper attacks you'll surely do well:=)

I say don't worry too much. You just haven't processed all that info and your reading has gotten a bit rustySoDesuNe on May 8th wrote:Something strange is happening to me. I don't feel any urge to play games but I could sit down and replay games (at the moment Dosaku and commented GTL-1d-games [for the basics]) all day. Well, we'll see how this goes ^^
