Life In 19x19

So, here's my angst, and I'm wondering if anyone else has felt the same or has had similar experiences.

When I look at pro game, I can understand what is occurring. I feel that I can:
Follow the flow
Understand how certain groups are sacrificed
Invasion Techniques
End Game Moves
The attempt to keep sente

BUT, here is my biggest frustration. Transferring what I feel I understand maybe even at 90 percent or 100 percent level to my games. I feel like I'm back in Calculus watching my teacher give an example on the board that I can follow easily, but then scumbag brain let's me down when I try to solve a different problem.

Any suggestions...or advice.

My 2 cents: It goes like this: you have a friend who asks you for advice. Since you can 'remove' yourself from the situation, you see it clearly, without prejudice, and give good advice. Once you find yourself in the same situation, you can't see it clearly anymore, since you are involved.

sure wish i knew how to avoid it cause i go through similar things. i can read a book or research it online, and it kinda makes sense, but ask me to put it in practice and i walk into a ladder..

As Sun Tzu so perfectly put it:
"All men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved."

It's one thing to recognize a good move when you see it, but you need to analyze why some other options were discarded. You could think of it as a mathematical equation where only the answer is shown. You have to learn to derive it from position. If the professional made a different move than you would have made, it's a good opportunity to read why your move would give unsatisfactory result and compare it to how the game went.

When I watch Roger Federer play Tennis I can understand what he is doing, but when I try to do it myself I'm nothing like as good as him. Why?

1) Innate talent/physical advantages.
2) more importantly, he has put in much more time and effort into practising tennis to get that good.

Same with Go.
