First ever kifu I could memorize from my tournament games

Post by karaklis »

It is known for dan players that they don't have a lot of problems with replaying their games out of memory, but for us mortable kyus it is different. For this reason many kyus use some tools to record their games. Today at the first day of the European Go Congress I have seen a lot of such tools (e.g. IPads, Nintendos, or paper kifus), even my opponent - a nice lady from Romania - had one. I tried several times to record tournament matches while playing, but always failed, so I liked the idea to memorize the kifu while playing. I've been struggling with memorizing for quite some time, but always lost track after a dozen or so moves. But this time it was different - for the first time ever - I can remember all 73 moves (well, that's not a lot, but still ;-) ). I have attached the SGF and enriched it with my thoughts that I had during the game. If someone wants to bother with looking over it, please leave some information where my comments went astray...

I usually try to replay my games from memory with my opponent after the game: I think it's a great help. I often find those moves I can't remember in review tend to be moves with questionable purpose, so it's a natural way of checking if you understand why you played what you did!

As for the game itself, 39 feels too defensive to me: I like the idea of making a move on the bottom like maybe a shoulder hit at J4, and see if white will give black more ammunition for attacking J10.

We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.
