good luck.
everytime i play him i fall behind and have to catchup.
i will start making things complicated from early so i dont have to catchup later.
this game will not be a game of balance but game of initiative and retaliation.

Thanks, you too, let's make it interesting for both us and the spectators :)

I'm going unorthodox from the start. Our games are interesting enough as they are, and I'm fed up with being out played in the messes he creates. So I'm going to meet him head on and take the initiative - Letting him dictate the pace is a recipe for disaster against magicwand

Lots of thoughts. None of them coherent. However, I've been reading New in Go and the O fuseki credo, and I'm wanting to play. Basically, I'm trying to create a board where I can wring an advantage out of most of the standard 5-3 approaches...

Have you ever tried the crab-eyes formation, and what did you think of it as opposed to the more balanced 3-5 points you played?

No, I don't even know what it is :P (although I'm guessing you mean :w4: at the other 5-3 in that corner). I did contemplate it here, but it felt very much lower edge orientated, and it felt too much like I'd end up relying on making a big framework or losing. I'm trying to keep something dynamic and interesting now - I'm quite pleased about magicwand's last move as it makes the Q3 approach just right for White. I hadn't really worked out how I was going to deal adequately with various pincer options.

So many complications in the air already, someone's gonna die somewhere I suspect :D

It's the other other 3-5 :). White 2 and 4 both have the strong/low sides facing black's stones. I have heard that it's a good way to counter an influence oriented opening by black, but I am at a level where playing a 3-5 point often gives an advantage because one player doesn't know how to deal with it well, so it's hard for me to make a real judgement of it.
