anyone know where one might find a backpack or rolling suitcase that is designed/fitted to carry a goban, bowls, & stones? I've looked online and can't find any.....

Making a studio or tatami room set portable is, umm, silly. Easier and classier to bring your go players to the board.Linokai wrote:anyone know where one might find a backpack or rolling suitcase that is designed/fitted to carry a goban, bowls, & stones? I've looked online and can't find any.....
I'm getting the 3/4" bamboo table board from YMI w/yunzi stones & bamboo bowls. I have a roll up silicone board set that i take across town on foot (about 8 miles) every Monday night, but when I get my new set I'm sending the roll up set to my step brother so I need to find a way to transport the bamboo goban/stones/bowls across town on foot...if I could even find a regular backpack big enough to fit the goban in I'd be satisfied but the largest backpack dimensions I can find are only 19" x 13" ......p2501 wrote:Define goban.
I've had success with pizza delivery bags, though if you want to stick the stones in there you may want to add some extra padding for your board. And if you;re carrying it across town, you might also want to consider adding a shoulder strap!Linokai wrote:I'm getting the 3/4" bamboo table board from YMI w/yunzi stones & bamboo bowls. I never thought of a pizza bag. I'll hafta look into that...and I ordered the carrying bag for the stones & bowls (also from YMI: http://www.ymimports.com/p-2020-go-bowl ... traps.aspx), so if I get a bag that I can fit the board in, I'd be ok with carrying the stones by hand...The silicon board is really good. You don't have to worry about rolling it one way or the other for it to lay flat like a vinyl board. There's been times when, instead of rolling it, I've actually folded it up small enough to stick in my coat pocket, and it still lays perfectly flat and doesn't have any creases. The only strange thing about it is the grid has the 1-19, A-T labels, but for some reason the A-T labels go from right to left instead of left to right (weird). But if you get it, I would suggest getting the board by itself and using stones you already have, as opposed to the set, cause the plastic stones that come with it are terrible. I don't know if it is just crappy plastic or what, but any time the stones of opposite colors come into contact, I get black marks all over my white stones. I find myself constantly washing them. They're super annoying, but the board itself is really good, as long as you just use a different set of stones.....Inkwolf wrote:I've had success with pizza delivery bags, though if you want to stick the stones in there you may want to add some extra padding for your board. First posted about it over a year ago. It now holds my 2.25" bamboo board, a 3/5" Shinkaya board and my first board nicely in storage between club meetings, each wrapped in a fleece pad that I fold and put under them during games. I only have to carry it from the back of the library to the meeting room, though. And the stitching is coming loose on one corner, gotta fix that eventually.
By the way, how do you like the roll-up silicon board? I've been curious about that, but not curious enough to buy one.
This is pretty much what i was looking for. I looked into messenger bags, but i couldn't find one that was big enough. THXmsgreg wrote:

Nice! that is exactly the kind of case im looking fortheduddha2 wrote:Yellow Mountain Imports have just got in some nice looking goban carrying cases that look kind of like a suit case. ( http://www.ymimports.com/p-2071-gotote- ... kZUhoZOMxg ). I do not know if this is what you are looking for or not but I thought I would tell you about it anyways. I ordered one for my birthday treat (as well as some other things.) Check out my you-tube channel around October 1st and I will do an unboxing video, with a product review for each item to come in the future. I will do the Goban case 1st for you as soon as time permits.
The 28 Euro case looks very much like the carry case that used to be available from Ishi Press long ago whose absence has been much lamented. It's good to see it reincarnated.p2501 wrote:Define goban.
In the meanwhile - does that help?:

I own this soft leatherette case from YMI, and am very pleased with it. YMI recommends using it in conjunction with their microfiber "felt" cover, and this is how I transport my 2-1/4" Kaya board to the club in safety and comfort! (I also have their zippered bowl bag with the straps to hold the covers [essential since in carrying the bowls turn sideways and would otherwise spill] as well as their simple bowl bag with the velcro closure [the bowls remain upright]).
