Malkovich subdivisions - and scrolling

I really like the addition of a Malkovich subdivision in the forums, but I think the break down of all the different levels may be a bit much. It adds quite a bit of scrolling, and I think breaks it down too far. Maybe just split it up into normal games and Rengo/Big Brother games? Mainly thinking that each one of them individually may not get all that much traffic.

Yeah, it's probably too many subdivisions. Has there ever even been a 20k+ malkovich game? Probably two divisions - Malkovich and other ongoing games.

I agree. It is all in the beginner's forum, and a beginner can learn from any level if the writing is well done. Also, what do we do with something like Topazg vs Fwiffo, when the two players would belong in different groups? Or when Magicwand plays a 25k?

Topazg vs Fwiffo was the first thing I thought of with this. Where would it go? Glad to hear I'm not off base here. Thanks guys.

This sounds right. I'd be interested in following Malkovich games of almost any level, so it would be nice to have them all in one place.

I like the subdivisions but where should people post to request for a Malkovich game? I would be interested in one!

After talking to Joaz, he is going to be editing the Malkovich forums to what he thinks fits the Malkovich system.

Jordus gave me temporary admin privileges to rearrange the Malkovich forum and sub forums. What I'd like to do is this:

I'd like to label the forum 'Turn-based games' with the following sub-forums:
1) Organizational ( intro/rules/ guidelines )
2) 1-on-1 Malkovich games ( with a sticky registration thread )
3) Big brother Malkovich games ( with a sticky registration thread )
4) Rengo games ( with a sticky registration thread )

Is this ok with everybody?

Looks perfect to me :)

I might add "other games", since I'm planning on starting something like a mafia-based go game in a while, and would not know where to put it then.
The forum might not get much traffic, but at least it wouldn't distract from the go games going on.

What do you think?

I agree there should be an "other". If people just want to play a non-malkovich turn based game here, or want to do something else like 3 color go or something, there should be a catch-all place for that.

I tend to want to err on the side of having too few forums rather than too many. If there are tons of forums it can be confusing as to where you should place a new thread sometimes, and can make the forum hard to navigate. In truth, I would be happy with just two forums for games - Malkovich and Other. Organizational/rules/guidelines can just be sticky threads.

Ok, the organizational forum will not exist, as it can be done with stickies. And I'll add an 'other' forum. If something in the 'other' forum gets real popular, we can always give it its own sub-forum. So now the tentative structure looks like this:

Main forum will be entitled 'turn-based games'.
1) 1-on-1 Malkovich games ( with sticky registration/intro/guideline threads )
2) Big brother Malkovich games ( with sticky registration/intro/guideline threads )
3) Rengo games ( with sticky registration/intro/guideline threads )
4) Other types of turn-based games

If all goes well, I'll be implementing these changes tonight at 10:00pm California time.
