It seems as if it may help to set your prefs NOT to show the max. amount of posts per page. FOR ME, the situation has improved when I reduced this number from 40 to 20.

I've 20 posts per page and it's been intermittently slow for me the past two days.

Do you mean mechanically slow, or less busy?

Because, yeah, sometimes I come back and check new posts, and there are only two or three...

It probably doesn't help that it is summer and there are things to do outdoors!

It always seems to slow down during the summer. It picks up during the fall when people go back to school and need something interesting.

The record for most people online was on a weekday in October last fall.

I meant slow loading. Seems to be between 4pm and 6pm GMT.
