Hi,
I don't know how many of you read the General topics -> Announcements -forum, so I thought I might as well post the same information about EGC 2010 here too. Sorry about double posting for those who are active and read all.

Let's have the discussion here instead of the announcements-forum. Any discussion about EGC or questions for the organizers are welcome.

54th European Go Congress is sponsored by Zhuyeqing Tea
24th July - 7th August 2010, Tampere, Finland
Welcome to Finland in July 2010. The 54th European Go Congress will be hosted in the very center of the City of Tampere, a southern Finland city located between two beautiful lakes. With a population of 210 000 it is the most populous inland city in the Nordic countries.
The European Go Congress is the biggest go event outside Asia. The Congress includes the European Championship tournament, many side tournaments and other go-related events. This go congress will reach the record degree of the northern latitude but don't worry, the summer time is warm, beautiful and the summer nights are bright in Finland.

There have been many questions about the prize money for European players in EGC 2010. We are happy to announce that with the support of our sponsors and the EGF we have the prize money of (at least) 5000e for Europeans. Other prizes will be announced later.

Thx for info
It's much more than we had last year in Groningen. But except prizes, last congress was very nice. I enjoyed it
I hope you will make it even better!

I also liked the congress in Groningen very much. We do our best to make everyone enjoy their time in Tampere too. I hope there will be much discussion here during this last month. Does anyone have any questions? Something to say? Wishes?

We see only few 6-7d Asians in registered list.
I understand, they were very unhappy about the prizes in Groningen. But maybe we will see more?
Any predictions?
With only few Asians, Robert Jasiek will put lot of 4-5d Europeans to the supergroup. Someone from EGC team or EGF has to stop him and make the supergroup smaller than 32.
I just sent my personal letter to EGF president and suggested him to take part in controlling the process of the supergroup creation. That's all I can do.

Just out of curiosity: What was the prize money of 2009 EGC?

1000 euro for first place, 600 for 2nd place, 300 for 3rd place. That was both for the Open and for the European. Since four players shared the same number of points (for both titles), the price money was shared equally between them, 475 each.

1) It does not depend on the number of non-Europeans per se but on how many of them up to ca. 8 are strong enough to be in the supergroup.
2) It is not exclusively me to form the supergroup but the tournament supervisors form them and the most likely there will be at least two of them.
3) Although you demand breaking the (spirit of the) rules, I will apply the rules.
4) It is unlikely that "a lot of", if any, 4d will be in the supergroup. Rather it looks like enough 5d+ will be there.
5) The EGC team does not have the power to stop the tournament supervisors. The latter have the greater power WRT to rules enforcement.
6) The EGF Committee is above the tournament supervisors. If the EGF Committee wants to change the rules ad hoc, then presumably it might do so (like declaring a smaller or larger supergroup size). The EGF Committee is responsible to the AGM, so if the AGM should not like particular ad hoc rules changes, it might affect reelection:)
7) The AGM cannot affect the supergroup setting of 2010 because it meets later.
8) Instead of your propaganda against me, you should address the appropriate body, the AGM via delegates by motions so that the rules might be changed regularly. Quite like I addressed the AGM to get a change from 24 to ca. 24 and from 4d to at least ca. 4d. I have achieved the only noteworthy change on the supergroup so far. What have you achieved so far? Nothing. Work out reasonable proposals and provide careful reasoning instead of trying to bypass rules and ordinary ways of rules changes while trying to blame me for having a different opinion.

You realise that "up to ca. 8" doesn't make much sense? It's either "up to 8", or "ca. 8". You can't really have "up to approximately 8".
Also, if "ca. 24" includes 16 and 32, then it sounds like technically there could be up to 12 Asians at least if they entered the tournament.

Hmm, there is another thread for the supergroup discussion already, I think we should try to keep the topic there. Otherwise it gets difficult to follow the (almost same) conversations simultaneously in different threads.

Robert, we will see who has more power!
Sorry for offtopic in this thread, I will not continue this war again, will better prepare for the tournament myself.
See you in Tampere!
