Hi all, I'm new here.
I've test the two tips here
http://www.lifein19x19.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=98430#p98430 without success. ("new engine=false" and the "huglytips.jar", but not sure to use this one correctly)
kxzu@KXstudio:/usr/lib/java$ ls
javadummymixer_biguglyhack.jar swt-gtk-3.7.2.jar
Still with sunjava7, all others java-games runs perfectly with sound.
Please help.
Thank you. (and sorry for bad language)

Download the jar-file and run it as root!
http://files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban.jar$ sudo java -jar cgoban.jar

The command line switch for the audio engine works only for Java 6.

But don't forget to downgrade your java version, first!
@linux sound test: a quote from
the older thread:
Nick23 wrote:rename the file to .jar and place it under lib/ext in your java home directory. For me this was /usr/lib/jvm/jre/lib/ext.
linux sound test wrote:/usr/lib/java
Nick23 wrote:/usr/lib/jvm/jre/lib/ext
So the path you're using is quite different. Since I don't know much about java in general, I'm hesitent to give any advice here, but seems to me you should try a path that looks more like the one suggested by the author of the biguglyhack.

Big thanks!
That works with Icedtea!

Thank you very much!
[Admin] Link has been removed for cgoban-h as the page for the project specifically says that: "The customized version is not approved by wms for public distribution, since he wants to have only single version of KGS client, maintained officially. It is thus not available for public download."
If the developer does not wish for public distribution of the software, it is against the policy of the forum to post links which distribute the software. (tchan001)

This is a violation of copyright and against the
Terms of Service:
In addition to this general guideline, there are certain behaviors that are absolutely not tolerated at KGS: [..] Using modified or otherwise unauthorized clients [..]
Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous to get sound working the easiest solution is to violate copyright and the Terms of Service.

I'm not sure a modified client is a copyright infringement: the distributed binary is no longer the same as original (it's derivative work.) I'm not sure if the changes in -h are so big to grant it legally, but it's probably gray enough to won't bother following it up. It would be far easier if the TOS-compliant client had sound.

Unless sites hosting the KGS software have permission, it's a copyright violation. It doesn't matter if it is modified or not. I couldn't take Microsoft Windows, change a few things, and redistribute it, for example.

If ever there was a good argument in defence of copyright infringement, here it is.
I just want the stone sounds back. None of the fixes worked for me. It's been years. It's clearly an easy to fix bug. Wms really dropped the ball on this one.

I refer to the post of raptor and his link to
http://www.mediafire.com/?n1cdbsgc8lo3orz.
There must be something obviously that I don’t see. What should I do with the” cgoban-h.jar”. I have unzipped the Archive (.JAR) but there is no jnlp or jar – file to start. So where is the trick to start the KGS-Client with the cgoban-h – folder? I have a windows 8 operating system.
Thanks a lot for give me the tip.

What should I do with the” cgoban-h.jar”.
Just open "cgoban-h.jar" with "openjdk".

That's all!
Ow you have win.. sorry. Try this if you can!

Ok, now I’ve figured it out:
I have to rename the downloaded zip-file “cgoban-h.jar.zip” into “cgoban-h.jar”. Then windows 8 (my operating system) actually realize atomically how to start the jar-file with the java-runtime. Just click on it. My mistake was that I have unzipped the jar.zip -file. But then it doesn’t work. It's just so easy if you know it.
But the main information is it works! I have the sound when a stone is set!! Great, and thanks a lot!!!
Again here is the link to the cgoban-h.jar.zip:
