Game of Beginners

I've only been playing for about a month and decided to play a ranked game with someone around my skill level. I lost that game although I thought I was winning for 95% of the game. Please help me figure out what I can do better next time:

White passed when he could have won the game. See variation at move 228.

Note: Always play the dame out. Wonderful things can happen when they are filled.
