Version of Go for the Nintendo DS
Version of Go for the Nintendo DS
Is it possible to get an English version of Go that will run on the Nintendo DS. As a beginner this would help me. I know there are versions in Japan but for some reason they are not allowed to export them to the UK (unless someone has found a way to make them available in the UK)

Re: Version of Go for the Nintendo DS
The DS itself is region-free. So what you'd really need is either a translated mod of a JP cart that you could then write to a blank cart (not that simple to do and someone would need to do the translation) or buy a JP cart through someone outside of a licensed vendor who would be willing to ignore the regional sales restrictions and work through the language yourself. The last option is again, not simple but enough interneting should get you something...
So in short, no easy options at the moment but it is physically possible to run a Go game on your DS.

Re: Version of Go for the Nintendo DS
There are English go playing apps for DS that only available in Japan? That sounds a bit odd - why would the developers do an English port if they are not intended for export to English speaking countries? Can you provide an example?
Or did you mean is there any legal way to run a Japanese Go application in the UK, and that you don't mind the fact that it is in Japanese? Technically this is very easy, but is likely to be illegal (although the legality probably varies from country to country).

Thanks for coming back so quickly. I wasn't precise enough in my question. I know there are Japanese versions of Go for the Japanese in Japan. If it is not possible to source an English product then I would be content to get a Japanese version and rely on getting a translation of the operating instructions.
There is a translation for one product on the Go forum at http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/360229/ ... intendo-ds
So I guess the question gets changed to does anyone know where to buy a Japanese version of Go for the Nintendo DS outside of Japan

They list out of stock, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to find. You can ask them.
