Re: Having fun

I am glad you are having fun. I am also playing in a more relaxed fashion. Maybe not so much "fun" for me as, "oh, I'm exhausted from work, so I need a break - this let's my mind think about something else"...

I guess that's fun.

Sure! If it's something that gets your mind off work (without ...

Having fun

For a long time, I didn't realize that playing go could be fun. It always seemed like a challenge to be faced or a battle to be won, never a game to be played. After ten years of struggling to improve, I basically burned out and stopped playing for about a year. During this time, I started playing ...

Re: Visualize go this way, make it 30 times easier to count

For many of us who have been playing on the intersections for so long it's hard to imagine not putting the stones anywhere but the intersections, but I think for most people who grew up with chess and checkers, many aspects of the game, not just counting, would have been easier to learn, visualize ...

Re: Invisible Pieces

Being male, it is hard to make an assessment of how female go players experience the go community in this regard, but I can'T imagine that it's all that different. The percentage of female players is similar to that of chess, and so being the only woman in the room is probably something that most ...

Re: How to make KGS better?

Isn't that a feature of OGS?

Anyway I don't really see the point of having an AI analysis on a go server, as I can run Katago on my computer after the game.

Hm. So another go server is more advanced, having a feature integrated that you would otherwise need use a separate program for, and ...

b) Offer AI review (should be one which works with all komi variants and handicap of course): Please see lichess.org for this (it's fast, it points out mistakes to learn from, it's free for everyone, it even produces a nice graph to see where your biggest mistakes were made)

Seems by far the ...

Re: L19 Virtual Go Club

I'd certainly like to meet some L19 folks on zoom. As for playing, I've pretty much stopped, but I still visit the forum regularly and I think it would be fun to meet some of the people with whom I've had so many typed conversations over the years...

Re: SL - L19 - reddit

Side note: Most of you probably know this way of searching on for something on L19, but if not, here's an example of how to use google search to do it:

LZ gospel site:Lifein19x19.com

This will offer google's brief excerpt of each hit, enabling you to find what you are looking for fairly easily.

Re: On handling online cheating with AI

I'd posit there's two types of cheaters: people who just run the bot and destroy their opponent, who want to play the best move every move. And people who want to get away with cheating, who spot check for blunders or the occasional tricky move, but who are savvy enough to not blindly play clearly ...

Re: On handling online cheating with AI

I can tell you as an admin that it takes a lot of effort to analyze and even more courage to take action against a cheater.

I agree that it needs to be done, but it seems like an excessive burden on admins. Their conclusions will always be challenged, and they have to live with the nagging doubts ...

Re: Ultimate Go app

lichess.org for go, simple as that ; )

One lichess feature that stands out is "review your mistakes." After running a computer analysis of your game, you can look at places in the game where you lost ground and try to make a better move and the computer will tell you if your choice is better or ...

Damn. So sorry to hear this. I never met David in person, but encountered him often on KGS, where his tireless contributions to welcoming new players and helping them get off to a good start will surely be missed.

Re: What do you normally use to play on KGS?

I haven't played in a while, but when I did, I used GoUniverse most of the time. Really a much nicer experience than CGoban. (Audio worked fine).
