Re: Raising money to 'Open-Source' kaya.gs

Question --- Why are you assuming that becoming "open source" would address the problem of lack of development of what users want?

With volunteer open source projects, what gets worked on depends on what the volunteer programmers decide to work on, what interests them .

Don't get me wrong, I am ...

Re: Raising money to 'Open-Source' kaya.gs

The OP's intentions are good, however provided with funds, those should go directly into the development for Kaya, either by our hands or independent developers.
All and any funding of the project should go into helping Kaya be a better server as it's always been.

Right from the start open sourcing ...

Re: Different UI styles possible?

Would be an interesting idea to allow local CSS style sheets to format the layout.
There are browser extensions that make it easy to add custom CSS and JavaScript, so you can already customize the UI if you want. There's of course no guarantee that your tweaks will keep working after an update ...

Re: Blog Announcement

Contrary to what as a user you evaluate, what our observation suggests is that we had to focus even more on user aquisition.

Sorry to jump in like that, but - How? How are you going to 'focus' on that?
You can't just order the users to come.
You have to offer what the users want, first and ...

Re: Blog Announcement

Well, well, well.
I'm not angry or disapointed or anything, but maybe it's time to look back at what went wrong? If for no other reason so that others may learn from the mistakes.

Personally, if I would (or could) engage in a similar project I would have concentrated on core features mostly ...

Re: Blog Announcement

Its kind of sad really.

First was gross time mismanagement. There were quite a lot of vacations and breaks. A lot more than I get at my job. And to do it on the community's money is kind of a punch in the gut. I know a few people who donated $35 from countries where $35 is quite a lot of money ...

From this thread :
About the business plan. We do have one, a well written one, with statistics, estimates, development schedule, pronostications, details of the team, techonologies, market, reference businesses, competitors, etc etc.
Its just not public. We ARE talking to investors. We have moved ...

Fair go mate!

They did their best and as far as I can see Gabriel hasn't said anything about giving up on the project. He's just said that he needs a job on the side to pay the bills, which is entirely reasonable. What else do you expect him to do?

Anyway, the server they've made seems pretty ...

Re: Kaya.gs does not work in Internet Explorer 9

The DOCTYPE of the document Kaya is serving up can force IE to render in compatibility / quirks mode. See here:

m

Since Kaya appears to be using XHTML Strict, it is probably forcing IE9 into some godforsaken combination of modes. If you enabled F12 Developer Tools, you can change it back to IE 9 ...

Re: Kaya.gs does not work in Internet Explorer 9

I've uploaded a screenshot from IE9. My issues are the same as those reported elsewhere in this thread.

Try clearing your browser Cache. Last time we tested IE9 a couple of weeks back, all was well so we can only guess there can be a local issue.

A user that was ...

Re: Why does the ranking only go down to 20k?

When you initially sign up, the lowest rank you can enter for yourself is 20k. I'm wondering why this is, since it seems like it shouldn't be that hard to just add ranks down to 30k. Sure, you can answer with "just play lots of ranked games with higher players" but that's such a cop-out.

Just ...

Re: The traditional and modern approach of go evaluations

Although i didnt read the thread thorougly, and i think Jasiek mentions this point, Joseki is not an even result.

Tsuke nobi is joseki, and its been known to be a non-equal result ever. San san invasion is also a joseki, and its also an obviously non-equal result.

Its true that the joseki love ...

Re: Kaya Down?

Hey Guys. Im back from a 2 day retreat to the woods, and found out the Kaya tree was damaged .

While i was out, the hard disk filled with logs, and without disk space, the server could not function. I was able to clear out the disk and increase the hard drive space from a meager 8GB to 200GB.

Im ...

Re: Open access / Accounts available?

Looking at forum posts, it seems a big complaint is the lack of users to get a game with. However, when I decided to check out Kaya as a potential new user, it says that there are 000 accounts available. Hasn't the server been in beta for quite some time now? Wouldn't it make sense to open it up to ...
