Re: 2nd Kuchinashi Tournament (4k-6k)

Nikolas73 and I have now played our first game. I took white and Nikolas73 took black. Here's the game:

Re: Are the numbers necessary for the Malkovich games?

Another challenge would be to get copyright permission from all the players. While the game itself may or may not be copyrighted, the players' comments sure are.
Assuming one starts a new game for this instead of publishing an old one, I don't think this should be a problem. One could simply note ...

Re: Malkovich: The flood is coming

Creating a new forum is fine with me, but I'm strongly against anything that involves someone other than the players deciding what is and is not a "Malkovich game". I'm not sure whether there are players who feel that the games they play in the Malkovich forums are not actually Malkovich games.

It ...

Re: Very confusing win.

Not really a review, but a few comments about the last parts of the game.

The bottom is very large. If we count that as your territory (which might be rather optimistic, although white should probably have invaded much earlier than they did in the game), you were not behind, but ahead by a solid ...

Re: Is this unethical

To modify the question a bit, how about if there is no bad aji on the board? The game is done; even the dame have been filled, and you are behind on the board. However, it's an absolute-timed game and your opponent has only a few seconds left. You continue, playing clearly ridiculous invasions as ...

Re: 1 dan 2010 Group Discussion!

If this isn't a time-limited thing I'll probably want to join this in a few weeks. The 2010 thing sounds a bit over-ambitious to me (at least for me), but I suppose it's good to be optimistic :).

Re: Some godiscussion page contains virus?

I think that's a false positive, triggered by the last post on that page, which apparently contains a picture of Lee Sedol and his wife. That picture is hosted on segye.com, which has been listed as suspicious (you'll get a similar warning if you try to visit that site directly). However, the only ...

Re: Life in 19x19 Title Tournament

I'm not sure that comparison list is up to date. It's been my experience that the OGS kyu ranks are significantly stronger. For instance, I've been 5 kyu for a while on KGS but I'm a stable 9 kyu on OGS. Looking over profiles from the OGS player list, there are several players around OGS 4 kyu that ...

Re: IRC Channel

I prefer IRC for chat as well, but since many of us are likely to be on KGS in any case and there's already chat functionality there, I don't think it's worth risking some slight fragmentation of the community over. I do miss timestamps and logging, though.

Right, I can empathise, I will be in the same situation very soon :). My exams finish before June 20 so starting the game up again then is fine with me.

Re: Endgame proverbs

why gote is preferred to reverse sente?

In general, to get the last play at the level of the plays,

For instance, suppose that the last two plays are a gote that gains 1 point and a reverses sente that gains 1 point. If you take the reverse sente, you gain 1 point, but then the opponent takes ...

Re: 2nd Kuchinashi Tournament (4k-6k)

That makes sense. However, I don't mean to be a bother, but: I have real-life obligations in the beginning of June, so having to wait two weeks to play a round three game actually sounds pretty attractive to me if those are the two weeks. If round two starts in about a week what I'll likely want to ...
