Re: Brady's Blunders
Your videos are excellent. You have an engaging, charismatic style to your teaching that makes it interesting to listen to you talk. I hope you keep on making new ones.

Re: Does Chess Still Matter?
Well, first of all, he did not do the impossible. If it were impossible then he would not have done it. But you don't say what impossible thing he is supposed to have done, so it is a moot point anyway.
To answer your question I would have to ask if it ever mattered.

Re: Books for surpassing the 6 kyu wall
"A so called 'big move' like a wide extension from a corner enclosure claims firstly an enhanced sphere of influence and later more territory. However, big moves are not as big as their visual appearance tempts one to believe because it requires several moves to turn a sphere of influence entirely ...

Brooklyn Castle
This is a fantastic documentary, even if you don't play chess. I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It would be great to see the same type of documentary on a flourishing Go club in a school.

Re: Underappreciated Go Books
I love this book: m but not a lot of people like/know it. Most of the problems look very easy but you really have to read a lot of variations to make sure the simple answer really works. In most cases it does not, which makes this book lots of fun

Re: In praise of handicap games
I seem to have the opposite problem. I love playing handicap games as black and will often gravitate toward a handicap game instead of an even game. On the other hand, a handicap game as white really seems to push me out of my comfort zone.

Re: Underappreciated Go Books
I wish I was able to get a copy of Kage's Secret Chronicles of Handicap Go . I love playing handicap games, although mostly as black.
@p2501: I have often wondered about those problem books. I rarely see them recommended on L19. Does anyone know what strength they are suitable for?

Re: What To Read First/Suggestions/Additions
My understanding of the four volumes of Dictionary of Basic Tesuji is that they are too tough for those weaker than around mid kyu level. However, others on here could speak more accurately than I could to what level those books are geared towards. At your level I would suggest GGPB vol. 2 & 3. You ...

Underappreciated Go Books
I am interested to hear from those of you who have read a number of go books what ones you consider to be underappreciated. Specifically, one or two books that you think made you stronger, and that you are suprised don't get more attention on L19 or elsewhere.

I think this is one of the more interesting posts I have read. It came to mind today when I was thinking about depth of reading. Be sure to read John's post further in the thread regarding Yoda Norimoto superimposing images from his memory on the current position he is analyzing. Fascinating ...
