Re: Recently added SL study material

I find the "big wall" examples very good, too.

If you know these patterns, memorising joseki is much easier!

If I am allowed to make a small comment:
In the example 4-4 ogeima enclosure, in my opinion both 12 and 14 are joseki mistakes. Maybe you could add that?

Re: My experience with a go teacher

Hi Stephany93, I the OP was not paid to post my experience. On the contrary I pay for my lessons.

My idea to post my experience came from a few other threads in which people talked about problems to overcome a gap, which I experienced (at least) twice.

I am not new to this forum, I made a few ...

Re: Comparison of books

200 endgame Problems is one of my favourite books. Here is why: it teaches both endgame tesuji and endgame technique .

There are a lot of endgame tesuji that one must learn to see in a game. However, there are also "standard" endgame sequences that, if you know them, help a lot. For instance how to ...

My experience with a go teacher

Hello everyone, some time ago I began taking lessons from a stronger player (in order to improve). I wanted to share my experience here with anyone interested in it.

I am 28 years old. I started go maybe 9 years ago, while still in university. I improved relatively quickly up to 6 kyu, but then got ...

Re: Learning to count

I wish there were counting problem books.

There is one good book, "Get Strong At The Endgame", where you have to find:
- the right move
- the right order of moves (sente, gote etc.) and
- the final score.

The problems use mostly 13x13 boards. This is extremely good training to become better at ...

Re: 5-4 joseki(?) question

I think EdLee points out the proper move in the normal joseki.

@ Joaz:

I like your way of protecting by falling back - I will try out this exact sequence in my next game, with good spirit!

@ DrStraw

Yes, a bit funny^^ I have NEVER encountered this move elsewhere! My opponent whos play it ...

Re: 5-4 joseki(?) question

@ mhlepore:

Thx for the link. My Problem was that the mentionned sequence is not given in joseki dictionaries...

@ Vincent, Joaz:

I find the idea of playing at E18 like in the normal joseki good! One question: since my two black stones have one liberty less, can white play like this:

$$Wc ...

5-4 joseki(?) question

Hello everyone,

I have encountered a 5-4 sequence at my local go club that I am having a hard time handling. My opponent always plays the 5-4 point, for example like this:

Re: Online course to get stronger at Go?

Hi thomaas,

I can not tell you something about online go courses, but when I was 4~5 kyu KGS and maybe 6kyu in the real world, I hit a stone wall and would not improve further (= I did not get stronger stonewise).

So I paid for lessons from a stronger player on KGS and it helped me a lot, because ...

Just tried out Tygem

Hello, I usually play on KGS, but I just tried out Tygem a couple of days ago...and I liked it a lot!
I just wanted to share my experience here, in case someone is interested. In fact I made the same experience as a lot of (?) other people on this forum.

-At the beginning, I was too stupid to ...

Re: 2kyu playing

Hi dehuong!

I am only 1kyu or so on KGS, but this is why I took a particular interest in the game!

My first impression is both player are very good at the opening and joseki! This long sequence in the upper left...

Up to move 69, the variation in corner I played this because I have read "Korean ...

Re: Mid-summer endgame problem

g: 7/8 point. I think "g" is the correct move for both white and black, based finding this position on sensei's library and by working out and verifying the variations as follows:

@ Lightvector, Bill Spight:

Where do you find the information on SL on how to calculate the value of "g"? I am ...
