Re: SL & GTL problems // data loss

Google will have a lot of those pages in its cache. It may be possible to retrieve the cached verions with some clever scripting.

Re: Attacking non-joseki slack shapes - an example

Thanks Uberdude, I knew for sure that my fighting play had to be full of mistakes. One has to start somewhere though.

I didn't even look at the attachment underneath. I don't know if others have this, but I think of the fighting unit in go to be the group more than the stone. I'm sure this is a ...

Attacking non-joseki slack shapes - an example

In blitz internet games I've encountered non joseki plays in the following position:

Re:

The thing is that at the kyu level most games are not that close. Where is the data to back up that statement.
My feeling is the statistics for kyu game results are no different from dan game results: it's a bell curve of sorts.
I don't have the data, either. Curious to see the curves.

I don't ...

Re: How to review your own games

I like Bill's suggestion of trying to find the losing move. You can take an even more basic step than that though, and look for the general reason that you lost.

The thing is that at the kyu level most games are not that close. Either somthing died or someone made a much bigger moyo and turned it ...

Re: Aji in a star point 2 space low pincer

You've already used the aji of the approach stone to make territory on the top side and you want more?! As others said just playing from the outside below or nobi on top is plenty. Your question seems to reveal a greedy attitude that you don't wish black to make 15 points with his wall whilst you ...

Aji in a star point 2 space low pincer

In a quick time control game I had an opponent handle the aji in a star point 2-space low pincer oddly. Here's the rough position that arose:

Re: An e-mail to admin concerning "Herod"

I didn't read anything about jokes not allowed (actually it wasn't a joke, it was more a humorous remark).

The two aren't mutually exclusive you know. I am trying to think of a situation where telling a woman "you play well for a girl" would be okay if only you smiled when you said it, but I'm ...

If you mean "High-Low Moves", I agree with you. I find that all of the "Basic Course" series are quite good, and I would recommend them in particular for DDK players.

Re: connect and cut problems

In problems like #33 the point of the problem is to find the *best* move to protect the cutting point. A possible solution is a move that will enable you to capture a cutting stone with a forced sequence. You need to look at all such moves and then choose.

In #33 you mentioned F5 ...

Re: Jumping out from a pincer

If black wanted to end up with this thickness across the board, why did he start with the marked stone? Why not start where is now?
It can be that Black also doesn't want White to get thickness. Maybe Black doesn't want White to build a wall facing the top side, but for other reasons didn't want ...

Re: How to get started with joseki?

For really studying joseki, I agree with gowan; you want to understand the meaning behind the moves or else you are wasting your time.

For a beginner though, I think it's worth knowing a handful of two-movers as well because everyone has to respond to what his opponent plays. Memorizing these are ...

daal: Theoretically I should be good enough to see those things at a glance. I just somehow overlook it.

This describes a problem in your mental game. I know, mine needs a lot of work as well.

There is a difference between knowing that you should be able to see those things at a glance and ...
