Re: Go Server Ranking Survey

Yep we'll be analyzing the results rather differently than the summary page - that's just an auto-generated by survey monkey. And as mentioned, we'll also be providing the raw data from the results for anyone else who wants to analyze it as well :)

Re: The new OGS

I made a post with essentially my above list in the OGS support forum. Let's see if they get mad about me...

Why would we get mad about it? We do actually read all of those - we're a bit backlogged at the moment and both have some family stuff taking up a bit of our time, but we do appreciate ...

For the record, presuming the conversion goes well, we'd be happy to host the resulting gobook file too :)

Re: nova/ogs white stones.

Yeah.. I'd hoped that problem would fix itself within a couple browser versions, that does not seem to be the case. After this next patch I'll revisit the stone rendering and make sure that problem goes away.

Re: For developers: Easy ways to render nice stone graphics

This might be a different kind of simple than what you're aiming for, but since you mentioned coding stones in javascript I thought I'd mention that generating stones procedurally using a simple phong reflection model worked out pretty well for us at OGS:

Re: The new OGS

Re GTP support:

We are planning on writing a GTP wrapper to interface with the system, but as others have pointed out, this is much more suited for supporting bots, which is what our interface will be tailored for. I suppose it'd be possible to have a human behind the wheel, but without some ...

Re: The new OGS

Lots of posts about ios browsing, what about Android? My experience so far is that, on Android 4.2, Chrome works fine, but Dolphin (my preferred browser) shows games but won't allow me to make moves (nothing happens on the GUI, and I keep getting server connection errors). Have not yet tried other ...

Re: The new OGS

He's referring to the serverside browser mentioned previously, not to nova itself.

Exactly. I guess the amount of data once the game is loaded is negligible (I assume just the data to manage the game area so close to 0 with today's speeds), but a remote browser has to send at the very least 1 ...

Re: The new OGS

There are features from OGS, that I miss on "nova OGS", however. Reviews are owned, which is probably a good way for teaching but the typical collective review featured on OGS is just not possible. Also, old reviews from OGS seem to be lost, unlike the old game records. Other than that, it already ...

Re: The new OGS

There are still network strain issues, even if security isn't a concern. Even if they are compressing the data, doing what is almost an X redirect through what I expect is a secured connection is a sh*tload of bandwidth just for playing a browser game.

Re bandwidth concerns, most of the data ...

Re: The new OGS

I mainly played on OGS using the android client, which now no longer seems to work. So I will probably give up on OGS entirely if a client doens't meander along soon, and give DGS a go.

Interestingly (to me if no-one else), my rank decreased as a result of the merger with no games being completed ...

Re: Nova.gs -- A modern web go server

On the landing page, do not display the games in progress so prominently (it will not be practical anyway once you have hundreds of games going) - and certainly don't show the positions and the timing. I know its a cool feature, but still... I think this might do more harm than good. Instead ...

You can now chat via voice on games, demo boards, and reviews if you are using an up to date version of Firefox or Chrome.

How about IE?
