Re: mobile phone collection
How do most of the tournament organizers there feel about recording games? Do they only allow game recording sheets?

Re: 10 reasons why adults fail to improve at chess
I started playing go in 2011 at the age of 14, and I'd have to say that aside from numbers 1 and 4, most of the points on the list you made haven't been a problem for me. Number 4 only exists as an issue when Number 1 does, otherwise I do spend time studying the game.

Re: GoKibitz Alpha
One feature I would like to see added, if at all possible, is a way to see what rank two players are when you're browsing through a list of sgf files. So far Gokibitz looks great though! Keep up the good work!

Re: The (probable) decline of pro baduk
the general feeling i've seen among professional go players is that China will be at the top. No real ETA, but i would guess 10+ years.
Just me firing from the hip here, but I'd say that China has already proven itself to be at the top of the professional world. If you look at which countries are ...

Re: Is a half point komi really fair?
I fail to see how you can lose the game and still claim to have made perfect moves. That 0.5 is something you have to account for throughout the entire game and if you can't do that then you clearly didn't play good enough moves to win the game.
And what about the other (winning) player? Your ...

Re: Is a half point komi really fair?
Why is it obvious the loser didn't play perfectly? I played perfectly, but my opponent played perfectly also. I was behind on move 1 by 0.5 because of the komi, and I was behind by 0.5 at every step until they very end.

Re: my biggest gripe with OGS (or most servers)
Do the reviewing tools for Asian servers improve if you use the non English clients?
sorting
I recently started logging onto KGS again after about a two or three month absence from the server. After logging on, I discovered that KGS seems to want to sort everyone's name in alphabetical order. When I go to change the method to sort by ranking, it works right up until the moment I log off. As ...

Re: Is a half point komi really fair?
I don't really understand why everyone wants komi to "be fair". Now, it seems to me that the majority of people in the go world agree that having the 0.5 is fine because it makes things easier for tournament sponsors. A lot of people here seem to be saying that if both players played perfectly, then ...

I think this will just lead to people complaining about some previously ignored bug on KGS, or everyone will start complaining about escapers even more.

Back to the original topic, am I the only one who, when I see my opponent play 3-4, gets this sick feeling in my stomach and the idea that my opponent will play some chinese variation?

Re: What is the rationale behind the sizes of Go boards?
19x19 is the largest possible odd-number-of-lines board on which the edge territory is larger than the center territory - i.e. it is the largest size which emphasizes edge over center, which has a huge influence on strategy.

It would seem that you and I could go on debating this for quite some time before this would resolved, Bill. Therefore, I think it would be best if we just agreed to disagree on this topic.

Re: Influencial Opening?
Well, I am unaware of a pro who says that influence oriented DDKs should switch to territory orientation. Or the other way around. And I would doubt one who did. There has been very little research on go pedagogy. One thing I do know is that there are many skills involved in playing good go. It ...
