Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
The YouTube channel Second Thought released a video today about AI, mentioning AlphaGo at the beginning and then talking about it more in depth later on. They don't go into any real detail about how to play go, but AlphaGo and Deep Mind are featured in the video from 4:27 to 5:56. https://youtu.be/M_8nAmvqC4Q?t=4m27s

Re: Re:
Heard this so many times. Should have gotten used to it by now, but I never seem to. "Go is so much better, for it is so much more complex etc" Oh please.
I didn't say go was better, only that it is more complex, which is an objective fact. Being "better" is subjective. If, to you, more complexity ...

Re:
moyoaji, how to type the chess characters ?
Hello Ed! It's been a while.
I went to a unicode character site that lists them all and searched for "chess." http://unicode-table.com is an example. Then it's just copy and paste: ♕

Re: CC0 Go Board Pictures
Well, I suppose I could have better lighting, but I don't know how much I can do about the focus or sharpness. My phone's camera is alright, but I can't put it on a tripod and I can only adjust the focus so much.
I guess I'll have to leave the pro stock photo taking to the pros for now. It's just a ...

And the other 3 were rejected as well...
I guess the site just has really high standards. It says that the images need a minimum size of 1920 on the long edge, a standard that these images all meet, but each one was rejected for not being high enough quality. I understand that they'd like to have ...

CC0 Go Board Pictures
I recently attempted to put some go photos on Pixabay because I use the site for images myself and it is severely lacking in go photos. However, my phone's camera, while okay by phone standards, hasn't lived up to the site's community standards. So I thought I'd post the rejected images here if ...

Re:
Hi Inkwolf,
I'm trying to see if there's (only?) one (!) Go bowl barely visible,
at his lower right corner. Or, it could be shogi.
And what's that object near his left knee ?
I cannot comment on the object near his left knee but, by using the latest in photo enhancement and analysis technology ...

Re: Western Chess, Xiangqi, or Shogi?
One question about shogi and xiangqi: How difficult would a seasoned player find it to keep the different pieces strait without any kind of understanding of the languages that the symbols come from?.
Not difficult at all.
It has been a very long time since I have made a mistake because I couldn't ...

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
“ Night Train (2009 film) ”, I think it was around around 00:27:00, just before they want to throw the corpse out of the window when crossing the bridge (German TV, I don't know how much it’s been cut).
From those two pictures, this looks like a handicap game. Black seems to have every star point ...

Re: Even Game Against 3 Dan
Thanks for the comments Bill. Is there a better joseki for the upper right corner? I wanted to try to reduce white's potential on the right, but perhaps it would have been better to pincer and try to build from my own enclosure on the top?

Even Game Against 3 Dan
So my rank on the KGS bumped up to 3d? since I last was able to play. As nice as it was to say I was a provisional 3 dan, I knew I wasn't that strong. Even so, I played my best in this even game against a 3 dan. The game went well at first. Sure, I made a mistake in joseki at , but I was able to get ...

Re: Working through the kyus! (Easier said than done)
I haven't posted on here in a while. I have been quite busy these past few months, but of course, I have not forgotten about go. (Yeah, you just forgot about this forum... )
And I thought it would be a good idea to post my most recent game, because it is the first game in which I have beaten a dan ...

Such references seem fine by me. After all, that's usually how go is referenced in America in real life. Everyone else thinks it's Othello or Chinese Checkers...

Re: GoPass Password Generator
As I said in the first post, you certainly can use other methods to generate passwords . However, as rat4000 pointed out with this article , it is a bad idea to have your password be based on dictionary words, even when intermixed with "texting" variations. Rainbow tables are real and have ...
