CC0 Go Board Pictures

Post by moyoaji »

I recently attempted to put some go photos on Pixabay because I use the site for images myself and it is severely lacking in go photos. However, my phone's camera, while okay by phone standards, hasn't lived up to the site's community standards. So I thought I'd post the rejected images here if anyone wants to use them. There are still 3 images up for review on the site, so maybe one or two of those will be accepted. If not, at least I tried to help people get some public domain go images.

For those on this forum, here you go: I hereby release these images under a Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. They are free to use without attribution for any purpose whatsoever. Basically public domain for all intents and purposes.

And the other 3 were rejected as well...

I guess the site just has really high standards. It says that the images need a minimum size of 1920 on the long edge, a standard that these images all meet, but each one was rejected for not being high enough quality. I understand that they'd like to have only the best images, but I'd like it if that was actually posted in their quality standards.

Does it seem like these images are unusable because of their quality?

I'm not sure of the standards on that site, but might the issue be the lighting rather than the photo size? Pixabay seems to be a source of professional quality stock photos, and lighting is what usually distinguishes a snapshot from a well produced image.

The focus/sharpness isn't really professional level, so if that's their standards I understand them being rejected. It's not the size mate, it's how you use it!

Well, I suppose I could have better lighting, but I don't know how much I can do about the focus or sharpness. My phone's camera is alright, but I can't put it on a tripod and I can only adjust the focus so much.

I guess I'll have to leave the pro stock photo taking to the pros for now. It's just a shame that more of them don't play go.

On the plus side, I submitted some of these to publicdomainpictures.net and they were accepted so at least some people hoping to promote go could find them there.
