Re: paK0's goals and dreams

July is not completely over, but since I hit a nice milestone I thought I'll make a post.

I did hit 4k on foxy just now, which marks a new highest rank reached for me.
In terms of tsumego/L&D I did not do as well as I had hoped. I upped my volume a bit during July, but this area is still by far my ...

Re: How to make eyes in the center

Thanks for the examples, I think I got something out of that, usually I run too long and don't take the shape moves when they present themselves, so I end up with a stick.

@ez4u: Its often the result of a reduction. I am looking for general advice and not really anything specific. I attached a game ...

How to make eyes in the center

See title.

Its a situation I find myself in quite a bit lately, but in which I am utterly clueless.

We are talking about a relatively open center, but some influence from the opponent can be felt there. Still assume plenty of room to run and make shape (but nothing to connect to).

Can someone ...

Re: How much do players lose in the endgame versus perfect p

Does anyone have some numbers that only count each local situation once?

I get why the numbers are as high as they are but it makes it hard for me to grasp the difference for the ranks like this.

Re: Alternatives to Life & Death and Shape up

Maybe the site is using a weird encoding?

With Chrome it works out of the box, with Firefox I have to select it manually

Alternatives to Life & Death and Shape up

So I'm looking for books covering the same material as the books above, but in a different fashion. I think both books have some nice ideas, but don't follow through.

Life and Death: I bought it thinking it would be like a joseki dictionary, but instead for common corner/side shapes. This was only ...

Yes, 20 min train ride. I's usually not super crowded, so I can sit and get some problems done.

Re: paK0's goals and dreams

So I think I'll shift my priorities training wise a bit for the month of July.

During June I put a focus on games. My goal was to play on average a game a day and while I could not play every day I usually hit ~10 games a week, so overall this was pretty successful.

I did fall back to 6k on foxy ...

Re: paK0's goals and dreams

Interesting, I have never seen this.

I didn't even know that pushing down there was a real move, the only legit followup I was aware of was the knight's move.

But I'll keep the sequence in mind =).

So in case anyone thought for just one second that 6ks have even the slightest idea what they are doing, I present you this game(the win was on time, unfortunately we didn't get to finish normally):

Re: European Go Cultural Centre is closing its doors

Is space actually that big of a problem for small/medium sized clubs?

I can see why getting enough for a tournament might be hard, but regular meetups for small groups of people usually are not too hard.

- My current playgroup meets in a kind of community center, it belongs to the city and various ...

Re: European Go Cultural Centre is closing its doors

As we all know, online play has a number of drawbacks: manners, the 2D-perspective, no other physical sensation than finger on mouse, and the sheer fact of being alone behind your computer instead of together in a club.

From the perspective of someone who played only online for the first few ...
