Re: “Decision: case of using computer assistance in League A

For a kyu player to play moves that match 98% (or whatever the exact no. is) of a high dan bot that has beaten a pro already? That's way too unbelievable now isn't it?! Even pros have trouble matching move for move or even playing the same top few moves for that high a percentage of their moves ...

Re: The mythical but arbitrary dan barrier

Which is why I hold myself to the standard of being 1 Dan in the hardest ranked systems or not be considered a Dan at all. I'm already Dan in my country and certain servers but I'm not convinced I am yet. I still have kyuu accounts in other servers (though I havent really made the effort to really ...

Be more aggresive and play moyo style (all or nothing play really makes your palms sweaty).

Need advice on what I feel was a lucky win

https://online-go.com/api/v1/reviews/306360/sgf

I'm Black.

Would love advice on this. Particularly the handling of the top 2 corners, early bottom right corner and the centre at 178.

Pretty sure one of my centre groups should have died in the original game had opponent played right ...

Re: Benefit of playing this Ko variation in 4-4 6-3 enclosur

P18. Then depending on the surroundings, it could die. But the point being made is that there is no Ko and you HAVE to run for that variation so I don't see any upsides.
You get 1 less option of Ko.
If the outside was already that weak then is it to perhaps lure the opponent into playing the ...

Re: What is the average income of Go players?

dfan is right. But even if that train of thought didn't make sense, it wouldn't be a logical fallacy. "Logical fallacy" doesn't mean "any argument I disagree with". I'd recommend consulting a list of logical fallacies.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but since citing logical fallacies acts like a bit of ...

Re: What is the average income of Go players?

EDIT: I am asking about typical Go fans, not professional players.

What do you think a typical Go player makes in a year (in US Dollars)?

I ask this question because there seems to be so little money in the game. Perhaps in the US (where I live), it is largely due to the small amount of people ...

Re: What is the average income of Go players?

I find it very odd that you can mix up professional tournament prize winnings with the total number of Go players in the world. That 60 million figure you quoted do not have access to even have a chance to win the prize money so that's a huge logical fallacy. The prize winnings for amateurs are so ...

A brief review??? All right, seems like expectations are pretty high ...

To answer two of your questions:

1) your invasion at 33 seems to be at the best possible invasion point (it succeeded after all) so it's all about the timing. It was too soon. Top groups were still competing for power. Right ...

Re: Nothing major died but somehow I got behind a lot

I feel like you should have gotten more in the bottom right. I agree. Around 106 the lower right was your sphere of influence, yet in the end you didn't have any advantage there. I think this is an example that reasonable results do NOT come automatically. Even where you know the strategic ...

Nothing major died but somehow I got behind a lot

Obviously my attacks failed so this must b an accumulation of many mistakes. Allowing W to make points too easily and getting mine broken. It's more difficult I think because nothing big died to cause the gap. Appreciate the help.

Re: How would Go change if we used stone scoring?

Ah I got confused. I see what you mean Kap. But provided both of the groups are the minimal size for life to require you to play that extra move to secure each group though. A bigger group doesn't have to play extra moves for 2 eyes whether split or not.

Re: How would Go change if we used stone scoring?

As a difference from area scoring strategy, connecting / cutting two independently live groups is worth 2 extra points. Therefore, the difference of numbers of black and white independently live groups matters as a strategic aspect.

How does that give 2 extra points? Could you explain please?
I ...

Re: alphago self-analysis by fan hui

the new 3-3 invasion at the top left, with AlphaGo directly attaching under rather than just bumping as we're used to. We might have to switch to that one in our practice games now

You're giving it too much credit. The attach under has been around for a long time now. As far back as the 90s at ...
