Need advice on what I feel was a lucky win

Post by shoryuu »

I'm Black.

Would love advice on this. Particularly the handling of the top 2 corners, early bottom right corner and the centre at 178.

Pretty sure one of my centre groups should have died in the original game had opponent played right.

Variations speak a thousand words, so I've left comments and variations in the original as alternatives. Please critique if my alternatives are along the wrong track as well.

Thank you to all in advance!

17: P7 is proably an overplay, especially when contrasted with the solid alternative at Q7.

19: Leading out the O3 stone looks premature.
You can play conservatively and take fourth rank territory with Q8, or aggressively and hane at the head of two stones with P8.
Either way, you cannot allow him to make an unopposed hane at Q8

28: Ouch!

41/43/45: Aji-keshi

51: N8 is better shape.

65: Take the corner.

93: You don't have time to start a new group. Your M17 group is under attack.

221: Good tesuji!

Overall, I see a bad habit of starting new groups when the better play would be to strengthen existing groups.
