Re: hello, im jeff (genzod) from USA

Hello Jeff Genzod. At 15 Kyu your next milestone is 10-12 Kyu when you know about live groups, connecting and cutting, etc.
The elements of Go are strategy, timing, and reading ability.
A simple strategy: Push through and cut and capture the weaker side. (De giri)
A higher level strategy: Make ...

Re: Handicap game play review

krafczyk, I don't know if this will help but here are some comments.
W7, You have sente. Look at the whole board. Are there bigger moves? Yes there are.
You had sente and end in gote for a small profit in the upper left corner, a small base.
Four times you coveted a small corner territory, 7, 9 ...

Peti29,
Reading ability? Have three ways to live or to reach your goal.

Fundamentals? (read the book, Lessons in the Fundamentals)
Read and study a book on good shape. (Making Good Shape: Mastering the Basics, Volume 3) 245 problems.

Re: Territorial style 7 kyu game review.

Krama,
W4 facing 3-4 stones. Did you plan to make two corner enclosures AND extend to the side for a large framework? No? Expect black to approach or reduce or make a base.
W36, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, your splitting strategy . Did you capture any of black's groups? Did you make a large territory ...

Re: starting a club

Go to a visible place. Make a sign. Use 9x9 boards. Offer a 10 minute lesson and a 10 minute game. Give 5 stones. Let them win. Be a new friend. Find a regular location.

Re: Now that I'm back to 7k I could use some help.

Kaimat,
W4, play in the open corner first, then shimaris and kakaris.
W22 and W24, an enclosure of the lower left corner with a knight's move, kogeima, would be good to build outside influence.
W24 helps black build a territory 10 lines wide while black's is 3 lines wide.
Black has sente too ...

Re: Learning strategy "in the fog" feedback

Jouzer, at 16 Kyu, I would recommend a 13x13 board to complete more games rather than a full board. Play someone stronger who will tell you their strategy and show you where you could have played better moves as you play. At 10 Kyu switch to a 19x19 board. Reading ability. Timing. Strategy.

skydyr, too many hanes, leaving too many cutting points.

Krama, outline a large moyo. Expect an invasion. Take half while chasing your opponent. Or make a new territory while chasing him.

Re: Online course to get stronger at Go?

Reaching a barrier? Can't get stronger?
Go back to the fundamentals: Strategy, timing, and reading ability.

Correct your errors in strategy:
playing locally. Slow down and look at the whole board to find the best move.
going for a small immediate profit instead of going for the big points first ...

Post 137, the game on 1-26-14. At black 229 a clamp at S-10 would reduce white's options and liberties.
Black 217 and 219 not so hot.

Re: To 5 kyu in 5 months! (We'll see about that)

moyoaji, give the 2 kyu player an incentive to play more. Two stone handicap. Practice building and reducing moyos. Run groups into the center for marvelous middle game fighting. Yes, winning a single game doesn't mean you are one rank stronger than that player. Kyu players make lots of mistakes.

Re: To 5 kyu in 5 months! (We'll see about that)

moyoaji, although I haven't viewed your posted games, your advancement is impressive. Reading Go books and studying problems is a good method to get stronger. However, playing weaker players is not a way to get stronger unless you have the proper handicap. I am skeptical of the on-line rating system ...

Re: Chinese fuseki versus 2 early invasions

Mr. Heisenberg, I rapidly played through three of your games. Nice software and display.

You seem to make a lot of forcing moves that could be saved for ko fights, e.g., nozuki. You play too close or on the inside of your opponents influence, then you add to the group before sacrificing it to gain ...
