Re: Early published works on computer Go, early AGA publicat
Thank you Jon!! I've recently begun my master's degree in Computer Science and would like to see how far along I can get in putting together a comprehensive collection of significant computer go research. This is primarily for me, so I have a clear idea of what has already been done before I push ...

Early published works on computer Go, early AGA publications
Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone has pdfs (or other shareable copies) of some early computer go research or any early AGA publications. In particular, I am looking for:
"13 Line Go", by Gilbert Rosenthal (1954)
"How To Play Go", by Takagawa Kaku, published by the AGA in 1958
"The Vital Points of ...

Setting up a bot
Hello all,
I'm interested in eventually setting up my own go-playing program bot on the online go servers. Two questions: Which servers provide for this possibility, and can anyone point me in the direction of where the information is online on how to do that for each? I am aware that KGS does (not ...

Largest solved go board?
Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone can point me to any link discussing whatever is currently considered the largest solved go board. I can find articles from a few years ago discussing a solution to 7x7 go, though I am wondering if anyone is aware of current attempts at solving go. Thank you.

Re: Murakawa Daisuke captures Oza from Iyama
Does anyone know if the rule still stands that Murakawa now receives promotion to 8p for winning the Oza, one of the minor of the big 7 titles?

date conversion
Can anyone link me to a site that can convert chinese calendar dates to western calendar dates AS FAR BACK AS THE 1800's? Most seem to stop at 1900.

Invincible and Smartgo Kifu (GoGOD) lists his birthday differently - is this a lunar calendar thing or something?

Shuko's autobiography
Hello,
Just wondering if someone could tell me the name of Fujisawa Hideyuki's autobiography (original, in Japanese) and perhaps where I could purchase a copy of it. Thank you!

Just a thought about ko
Anyone willing to speculate about the origin of ko? Is it perhaps natural to think that in the ancient beginnings of go that there was no rule against immediate recapture - that, in a sense, it could have been seen simply as a defensive measure, along the lines of telling your opponent, "hey, you ...

"liberty" in Chinese, Japanese
Sooo, I went over to SL to see the Japanese and Chinese words for 'liberty', in the sense that a stone has 4 liberties (empty adjacent intersections) - and was greeted by a disgruntled contributors arguing over the content and formatting of the liberty page, lol. Gotta love strong personalities ...

not colloquial, just bad.
And I vote for your proposed wording. It is clear and correct.
Enough for me on this one

Re: AGA rule wording
We all understand the intention of the rule (of course). Isn't it obvious that the wording is wrong? It is silly to defend the meaning of 'any' as zero or more stones captured, when more than zero stones captured never leads to self-capture. Why defend the wording - the wording should be changed ...
