Re: NHK Cup Timing/Chronos Clock

Replicating NHK timing is undesirable due to the extreme inefficiency of the system. We should realize that for the same amount of time, 20 periods of 30 seconds each would be much more beneficial to the players. Not to mention a single block of 10 minutes where you only lose what you use. NHK ...

Re: NHK Cup Timing/Chronos Clock

Thanks - I've looked at that, and at the complete manual pdf:
http://www.chesspraga.cz/download/manua ... Manual.pdf

I haven't been able to find a mode that would replicate this type of timing. It may be that it's just not possible, but maybe someone knows how you'd do it.

NHK Cup Timing/Chronos Clock

Does anyone know if there a way to set up this style of timing on a Chronos clock? Thanks!

Re: Thr pipes they are a'calling

Looks like a great book - any possibility of it being available in the Go Books app?

I don't know what that is, but if you mean an e-version - no. However, an earlier e-version (fewer games and minus Go Wisdom) is available on SmartGo.

Sorry - I meant the SmartGo Go Books app - the one you ...

Re: Losing an account - inactivity

Thanks, asura, that's helpful. My gap probably was more than a year - and it's helpful to know that 6 months is probably safe. Playing on multiple servers and not having tons of time to play, every once in a while there's a fairly long gap on one of them.

Re: Losing an account - inactivity

I'm not trying to get in an argument here, but it's not at all that I think playing games is a complete waste of time. It's just that you can usually get better games faster if you have a solid rating. That's all. I'd rather have a solid rating than not have one, so it's slightly annoying to have ...

Re: Losing an account - inactivity

It's much easier to get a game when you have a solid rating though. Whether it should be or shouldn't be, that's just the way it is.

Re: Losing an account - inactivity

It definitely will - it's happened to me. Somewhat annoying to have to play 20 games to get a rating again.

Re: Is Leela good enough to use as a "review partner"?

About how far to you need to let it run out to be confident that the move(s) it's giving you are indeed the best? Would that be measured in nodes?

Re: New slate and shell stones

Oh, and I did get a chance to count on the slate and shell - 182 slate, 181 shell. So the chipped one is an extra. Still might get a set of the extras from Kuroki though.

Re: New slate and shell stones

Where have you seen Kaya and Hiba for close to the same price? Where I have looked, it's usually almost double, and Shin Kaya is even cheaper than Hiba and is probably a very nice option as well. I too do not personally care for agathis. I'd love to get a Kaya board, but I just can't see myself ...

Re: New slate and shell stones

Sybob - thanks for the links. I've seen those before, but they are indeed super helpful.

GoTony - So I got them yesterday, and overall I am very pleased. No time for pics, but I'll try to do that another day. All I had time to do was wipe each stone with a clean cotton towel and put them in the new ...

Re: Is Leela good enough to use as a "review partner"?

I took it as a serious question - I was wondering the same myself, not just in terms of strength, but if the moves were "human" enough that it would work well as a review partner.

EdLee - definitely would be better if/when I can remember the moves of a game a bit better. That might be a while ...
