Re: Park Junghwan is The Best

Go4go shows Park Junghwan playing in something called "1st Korean Crown Haitai Cup". Does anyone know what this tournament is like? It's still hard to find info in English on these things.

You can find the brackets here:
m

It seems to be some kind of "under (25?) Years old" tournament.

Re: 2017 22nd Samsung Cup

None of the world champions participated in the prelims passed. 2 top female players also eliminated (from their female groups). What a hard tournament!

None of gorating's top twenty who took part of the prelim made it through. And there were eleven of them.
Mi, Choi, Tan, Shi, Lian, Zhou, Fan ...

They only include games with a kifu, and not all games from the preliminary have a game recorder.

Re: Chinese A league 2017

Round 3 is already over.

The most notable result: Ke lost against Tang Weixing in just 124 moves. Tang is not doing really great lately (well, it has been so for a least a year now...), but he's one of the only player with a positive record against Ke Jie. Perhaps it will put him back on track.

Congrats to Cho, I hope he will keep playing for a while and reach another milestone !

Anyone has this number from Korean or Chinese professionals? (Like Lee Changho)

According to the korean baduk association website, there are three koreans who have won over 1500 games so far:

Re: How long does it have to be a "dan" player

This is a major source of disappointment and a reason for people leaving Go altogether.

It's a valid point. Staying motivated sur is a tough part. I would probably have been less supportive if he didn't have a reason and a deadline.

You can reach 2k while aiming for 6k as well.

Re: How long does it have to be a "dan" player

I think most people are quite pessimistics about your goal. It's not gonna be easy but it's doable. Work for it, keep a tsumego book with you at all time, play as much as possible and try to find a teacher. There is also this one from korean B league:

White 2,10 and 12 are really unusual, and there is a lot of other crazy moves by white during this (short) game.
