Some recent rare openings

Post by macelee »

First, check the recent games of Seo Joonghui 5p in the Korean B league.

http://www.go4go.net/go/games/byplayer/1237

Somebody played a rare 4-9 opening against him. Then in the next game, he used it against his opponent and actually managed to win.

Then there's a very unusual game in the Japanese Shinjin O tournament:

Its first move is at 4-8 position, followed by four 3-3 moves, and later followed by 2 second-line moves approaching the 3-3 stones.

That Japanese game is bonkers! Do you think they were drunk, or maybe white thought if black is going to do weird moves he wanted to show he can out-weird him and still win?

But I think White's initial idea in the Japanese game was quite nice. When faced with one of these weird openings, just imitate Black rather than try to counter what is certainly a prepared opening. I'll have to remember it for future reference.

There is also this one from korean B league:

White 2,10 and 12 are really unusual, and there is a lot of other crazy moves by white during this (short) game.

Kim kiwon started playing some Black hole-ish openings recently without having history in pro games of doing so.

You are right. He tried really hard. Here are a number of games I find. For each game, I post its board position at move 30. You can see he is really after some sort of cosmic style.

Also Onoda Takuya's 2nd-line approaching move is not an one-off. See another example:

Oh lol. Just found out Onoda is Sonoda Yuichi's pupil. Figures.
