Re: stone clicking sound missing - windows 7
So no word since end of July? Just installed KGS on a new laptop, and no sound. Using an outdated, less secure Java version really isn't an option for this machine. I wonder if we chipped in, we could pay wms to sit down a couple hours and fix this? C.Blue posted a solution in a different thread.

Re: Oh, I'll play tommorrow. (No, you won't.)
I have anxiety issues when it comes to Go for some reason.
This is probably intimately related to:
This quote seems odd to me though. I've always seen tournaments, in any game/event, to be competitive and winning and losing are important in a competition by nature.

Many Go books are written by ghost writers, not by the professional whose name is on the cover.

Re: Politeness of certain strategies
You could always say, "I'm terribly sorry that I'm playing a style that isn't convenient for you. Next time, I shall make every attempt to accommodate to your preferences. Please, accept my apologies." And then put down your stone on Tengen.

Re: First Fundamentals: First Impressions
I’ve just ordered the First Fundamentals, and I tell you, I am very curious. And I’m especially curious in what way it may change the way I teach the kids at the regular Go workshop that I instruct at the local school!

Re: First Fundamentals: First Impressions
What a thorough and helpful review. Question: have you seen the Second Book of Go? To what extent does First Fundamentals dominate SBG as a book to recommend to new players?
Sorry for the late response. My plane of life has gotten a bit in turbulences lately, so that kept me on my toes (or rather ...

First Fundamentals: First Impressions
This isn't a review (I may post one in a few months when I know better how effective the study was), just my first impressions after spending some time with Robert's latest work.
I believe "First Fundamentals" is an important book. It contains a huge amount of material in form of bite-sized pieces ...

Re: Useful books to become stronger
I'm just pointing out I think studying joseki is less efficient. I understand you want to sell books, but I just disagree on when people need to study joseki.
I don't have any books to sell, and I still agree with (what I think) Robert is saying. When I was a DDK, familiarizing myself with a ...

I'm surprised you can use GnuGo in a closed source, commercial app. Or does it need to be downloaded separately?

Re: Oh, I'll play tommorrow. (No, you won't.)
I'm a bit torn on this issue, and I'm not consistent in how I feel about it.
On one hand, I do feel like a sluggish procrastinator when it comes to actually playing the game, and I know it hinders or slows down my progress. I'd like to make it to shodan some day, but I'm uncertain if I'm willing to ...

Re: Rank too high?
You will improve much faster if you play against stronger players. The benefit from playing people who are 20-30k is very limited and in many ways counter-productive. Sure, for the ego it is nice to find someone who knows as little, or less, than you, but usually that means you will play something ...

Re: which iPad app plays strongest most human-like Go ?
To answer the original question, I feel that Igowin HD plays less like a bot at mid-high SDK levels. CrazyStone (Champion Go HD) plays "more obviously" like a machine. But this is really subjective.

I do tsumego like other people do sudoku. (In fact, I enjoy doing problems much more than actually playing the game, and rarely play compared to doing tsumego.)
