Re: The king of end-game blunders
What about forgetting a captured stone in my lid after scoring, in a game that I lost by 0.5 points? This happened during my first (and only so far) over-the-board tournament, and it would have been severely disappointing had it not been so hilarious.

Re: Politeness of certain strategies
It is strong until the opposition is professional, is entertaining as hell, and allows the opponent endless ways to hang himself. It's like a dream come true.
Well it's not particularly strong, so what you end up is "entertaining as hell (for yourself) and allows the opponent endless ways to hang ...

Re: Politeness of certain strategies
What can be considered impolite is not so much that it relies on the opponent making mistakes, but that it puts the ball entirely in the court of the opponent. Similar to hedgehog strategies in chess, where you are basically saying "I'm not going to make any effort of winning, I'll just sit here and ...

Re: Lag City
Complaining about lag during a stress test beta completely misunderstands the point of the beta.
Au contraire. This is precisely the time to complain. I tried to put in a tweaki by clicking the feedback button on the tweaki page. It didn't show up though. So, hopefully they'll read this.

knowledgeable(wisdomy?) - intuitive
If you are referring to this kind of division , then I would go with something like "analytical - intuitive", because an intuitive approach definitely requires a lot of knowledge. I just see it as a different way of processing that knowledge, focusing more on ...

Re: L19 2011 tournament: PAIRINGS and RESULTS
Wow... That's crazy. As usual I was in byo-youmi at this time, so I did not do a complete count, but black just looked so obviously ahead to me. I do not know what it is that sometimes screws so much with my vision. I guess I underestimated the big center.

Re: Depth first search vs. Breadth first search
I think it is quite normal for mere mortals to have trouble keeping variations of a tree in your head, forget individual lines and do them twenty times over, etc. At least it's normal for me... That shouldn't discourage you though, just try your best every single time and it will become better ...

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs
There are plenty of services which would offer to host streaming or static video for embedded content (which is not the same as simple links). Whether kaya.gs ends up using such services or host the content themselves, bandwidth is definitely affordable enough these days (otherwise nobody would ...

Re: Is there a .pdf to sgf utility?
A PDF will just have the problems as images, or (not likely) vector graphics. Analysing those to create SGF files may be theoretically possible, but practically not.
Unless I am missing something and there is something special about this PDF.
The other way around it would be much easier.

Re: Oddities in KGS ranking system
The 5th win in a 5win streak should increase one's rating more than a win after a win-lose-win-lose scenario.
really?!
so if I flip a coin 10 times and it comes up heads all ten times, should I expect the probability of a heads result on the next toss to be greater than 50/50?

Re: Tsumego
Samurai, but what you describe is still pattern recognition. It may be confusing in Go because of the term "pattern", but it does not just apply to patterns of stones, i.e. shape (though arguably everything in Go is shape).

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs
I mean... I don't mind supporting it because it is a good idea, but why should I play there? I bet I am not alone asking this.
Go servers are like bars. Nobody wants to sit in a bar alone, so people go where people are. But how to get the initial people in?
It is weird, the answer to this question ...

Samurai, you seem to be implying that reading is all about pattern recognition. While pattern recognition is extremely important, tsumego are probably not the most efficient way to acquire it (though certainly not considerably worse than playing or reviewing games either).
