Re: Why was Yokotsuka Riki jump promoted from 3p to 7p?
Ah, it's as John said in July: he got into the Honinbo League. I'll just leave this thread for future reference.

Why was Yokotsuka Riki jump promoted from 3p to 7p?
Yokotsuka Riki was born in 1994, qualified in 2015 and was promoted in 2017 and again in 2018. In 2019, he was apparently promoted directly to 7p. Why was this? His most notable achievement listed on SL is reaching the finals of the 2020 Shinjin O. Did he qualify for a big title league?

Re: Three crow-ettes?
In Latin, cornix (crow) is feminine, whereas corvus (raven) is masculine.
The three cornices of Japanese female Go seem quite obviously Rina, Asami and Sumire.

Re: Promoting Go in East England
Will anyone be at the Norwich Anime & Gaming Con this weekend? If you intend to be, tell me and I might try to make it on Sunday and bring a Go set with me. (I only just found out about the event.) It's not expensive, less than £20 at the door.

List your club on Google Maps
Why not? It'd make it more discoverable. Sure, we have the Baduk Club map etc., but there's no harm in creating another option, which would be the first that a casual enquirer would be likely to check.

Re: Promoting Go in East England
If anyone ever wants to play in Essex, tell me here or on OGS or somewhere else in advance and I'll try to meet up with you.
I'm even open to starting a weekly club if the proposed location is public transport accessible.

Seeking info on two very old Go servers
Just now, I ran across the initials GIGS and NCIC on a program I reckon hasn't been updated since the 90s. They're listed as servers. Does anyone know anything about them?

Go Writing Style Guide Survey
I'm interested in creating a style guide for Go material, so I'd like to collect opinions. I'd be thankful if you'd answer these questions. The guide, if made, could serve as a template for video titles, magazine articles, a revision of the Go Wikibook etc.

Re: Assassination Classroom
I've read the manga. It was quite fun, but I don't remember Go appearing.
Go appears more heavily in Nichijou (manga 2006 to present with 2015-21 hiatus, anime 2011). Several of the characters of that show form the intentionally baffling "Igo Soccer" school club. (eg. see https://www.youtube.com ...

Promoting Go in East England
These are the currently most easterly English Go clubs according to the BGA club map (https://britgo.org/clubs/map), together with their distance in miles from the east coast as measured in a latitudinally straight line, rounded to the nearest ten.

bugcat's practical beginner to shodan improvement guide
I hope that this advice could help a beginner to improve to the level of western (AGA-OGS-EGF) shodan. It's only my approach to the topic, and commentary is welcomed, especially from dans. Some of my suggestions might be controversial.

1960s Go video on YT
The video https://youtu.be/OqA1Sb9Wcww shows a game of Go apparently between beginners. The male player was apparently a trepanning patient (if we can believe that part of the description, which claims they were playing battleships), and the game is stated as having been filmed in the UK in the ...
