Re: Shake, rattle and rule

The games I played that I have enjoyed the most are usually the ones without any time constraint, played at the local pub. And for a while, I used to dread the moment my opponent got into byoyomi during tournaments. In fact, I used do the opposite of what Shin did: play slower and sometimes play ...

Re: Lopsided game - who, why and how?

I refuse to believe that such a position is anything but fantastic for black.

Re: My games, mid DDK - feel free to chime in :)

Hi, some opinions : )

:b14: descending down to P19 is a free sente move. I'd take that before defending.

I wouldn't. It feels like a wasted Ko threat/wasted aji.

And a tip for Triton in this context of first line moves: I would recommend to make a solid connection on the second line your ...

Re: What is the solution to this tesuji problem?

Ok, the sequence that Kirby posted is the best black can do here then.
The book worded this problem somewhat poorly then, but its not to unreasonable.

What is the solution to this tesuji problem?

The book Graded Go Problems for Dan Players Volume Five contains the following tesuji problem/capturing race. Black to play, any ladder towards the right works for Black, any ladder towards the left works for white.

Re: Game from today

At move 65, connecting your cutting stones at L8 looks like a must to me. You need to keep white disconnected, otherwise you can't continue to fight in the center. After white captures the two cutting stones, it seems that Black didnt really gain anything from the attack that started in the upper ...

Re: The Reign of Ke Jie

Ke Jie is playing in the Chinese league finals right now Vs Ding Hao. He massively messed up a 3-3 invasion joseki after he tenukid and died (ladder doesn't quite work and yes he really played a8). Yikebot put him 20 points behind. But he fought back and now it's about even again!

So, can anyone ...

Re: Please rate: Tesuji or a fluke?

That hane is a known weakness in the white position. If white answers the C5 cut with D5, it becomes a Ko.
In this case, the white position was a bit stronger than usual and Black is a bit weak in the corner. In this psoition, you would want to be able to block at B2 instead of B6. Sneaking in a F7 ...

Re: EGF vs AGA pros win-and-continue match

I wonder if this tournament does not have a negative impact and if it would not be better to stop it, in the interest of the development of Go in Europe.
Let me explain:

In Europe, a radically different choice has been made to insist on sportsmanship.

It is in the rules of our Federation, and ...

Re: Beat Elf!

Hmm, I am quite suprised about the reports that Elf and Leela both miss the tesuji, as I expect an average 1 dan to find it in a serious game.

Is that local position an obstacle for them and can we find this blindspot in similar positions? What about other AI?
